Thanks for the suggestion. A good idea. But I may stick to using the money for two meals + large cup of real coffee at my favourite tea-shop. A 'frozen' UK pension makes for a tight budget.

You need to be "invited to register" to sign up for tv chaos!

I use this one:

https://v10.downloadhelper.net/

Installed as an add-on to my standard browser.

Use it mainly with YouTube videos, where it saves the videos without the irritating publicity. Works well with many other sites also. Such as Substack.

Make sure you have enough bandwidth. Best not to save to disk and view video at same time.

After saving several videos in succession, YouTube may prevent you from doing so. Try again later, or if using a VPN, switch to another country.

Latter solution can also help if using a VPN and data is coming in too slowly, download stalling. E.g. if using a Thai IP number, switch to a Los Angeles number at a time when people there are in bed asleep.

Find a cheaper place to eat 2 days a month and you’ll get at least 28 days of YouTube with no adverts. I’m sure things are tight, but you can find a way if you want to. You could also try Netflix for 1 person for a month. 169 baht a month for basic plan or 99 baht for mobile or tablet. Good luck.

Thank you for the advice, which I shall consider. I have not tried Netflix but have the impression it is more or an entertainment medium than a real source of information on current affairs, politics, history of diverse periods and aspects, and technical and craft subjects.

YouTube offers these. But unfortunately it has also become a major source of disinformation, increasingly so with the development of AI. Use due diligence.

I normally eat out once a week, on a shopping trip into town, and have been eating in this tea-shop - although not exclusively - for more than two decades. I like the vegetarian food, its value-for-money, the staff, and the pleasant and relaxing ambiance (open-sided natural-material shelters around a garden area). And one sometimes encounters people one knows. They have a shop that sells craft products to support refugees in camps, and periodically exhibit works by exiled Burmese artists. When in Mae Sot, visit 'Borderline'. (closed on Mondays)

It seems to be doing so. I am currently downloading 'All Quiet on the Western Front'. Nearly 70% done. I have the paying version. Don't remember how much it cost.

Download now completed.

I use Firefox, latest stable version, with standard privacy settings enabled. Does not stop the YouTube ads.

So what settings do you use?

Seems to me this Firefox feature is more designed to block cookies and trackers.

You need to install Ublock Origen. Privacy Badger is also recommended

Have you tried 4K Downloader?

https://www.4kdownload.com/thanks-for-downloading?source=videodownloaderplus

Works on Linux, Windows, etc, as far as I know.

I used to use it a lot more than I do now.

The Russian sites have a lot of great content, including Classical Music.

The Classical Music site in Russia is easy to download.

But, the movie sites, I guess I would use one of these downloaders.

Or, is it not good enough to watch online?

I looked at this out of curiosity and it says it can read and change all your data on all websites. Er, no thanks.

A 'frozen' UK pension makes for a tight budget.

How long has the pension been frozen?

You could go back to the UK for a couple of months, tell the DWP via a simple phone call you have moved back to the UK, you pension will then be increased to the current pension rate for the rest of you life.

Then you could go back to Thailand and after three months tell them you have been out of the country for three months so you are clear with the law, you do not need to tell them where you are, just state you have been on extended travels.

It worked for me last year when I visited England, I called and some bored person working the phone from home answered, they just enter you details into the computer, they have no interest in what you are doing and in any case it is legal.

My pension and other income is paid into a UK bank account and then I transfer whatever I need to live on in Thailand using the WISE app.

I have been using it for a good few years and have had no problem with it, despite using an advanced and quite expensive Internet Security suite from ESET. They are not so well known but do well in independent tests. And have very little adverse effect on the operating system, whether Windows, Linux, or other. Said to be because their versions are largely written in Assembly language (close to machine code).

I am unable to answer those questions. Perhaps you can do so ?

I still manage to download movies and TV shows from The Pirate Bay proxy site as well as from a proxy of 1337x.to . It takes a bit of fiddling about using AdBlock etc, but is doable.

Videodownloadhelper for Firefox works well to download videos except for YouTube, which is a problem for most Downloaders because Google is always trying to block them.

With adblock plus, adfree youtube.

If only I had a youtube login to watch age restricted YT video's.

I don't have a phone to make an account.

Any of you know a way ?
