Firstly, apologies mods, particularly PB and sbk, as I'm going to post this in HH section & in Pets. I know I'm not really allowed to, but as this is an emergency, I'm hoping you'll allow it, this once.

HHDRC (Hua HIn Dog Rescue Center) have a problem. We have a very short time (unspecified, but we believe less than a week) to move our dogs from one location in Hua Hin Dog Shelter (the Tessadban run pound nr Elephant Village) to a location over the road. If we do not move in this time, we have been informed the Tessadban will dismantle our facility from around our dogs, not caring if they mix into the Tessadban dogs/run into the road/whatever.

Anyone that has ever seen the condition of these dogs will understand why we would want to keep our well-loved & well-cared for dogs under our care, rather than relinquish them to the pound.

The location we must move to is already built, but has been left to rack & ruin, so needs grass/weeds cutting back & doors & walls put back up. We also need 6 of the pens to be fenced into 3 each (ie making 18 individual pens). We have the materials in our present area, but they will need dismantling & put up again in the new place.

Can anyone help? Do you have a free day this week (or two) that you would be prepared to give up to us & a bit of DIY? We can't afford to pay (it would be illegal anyway, if you're farang), but I promise to buy a beer for anyone that helps out.

If you are in HH, already, that's great, but I'd also be very happy to see any helpers from out of town. I could help book you accommodation if you wish, but again, we can't pay for it.

BTW, if any women feel up to a bit of DIY, we'd be happy to see you too - I just thought the title would attract more views if I specified men.

If you can help out, please pm me.

This sounds like a very noble cause, indeed.

If you don't get offers for help from farang, please understand that although people may want to help, the reality of Thai labor laws makes it risky. I'm sure we've all heard (and I have to believe it's true) that foreigners are not allowed to perform work (even voluntary) without a work permit. I'd suggest that you employ some of the local Thais to do this. Not only would you be conforming to the laws, but you'd also be doing your little bit to help the local economy.

I dont think you get NR's drift, this lady is doing the work of an angel with a zero budget. After speaking with her personally on one occasion and reading her posts, I am aware that she faces a certain amount of local hostility and definate hardships!

She needs physical help that is free, not a lecture on the morals of "working" without a work permit etc etc

pattyboy, I am employing 2 Thais to help, but it's difficult to find people to work on such short notice & I thought the more people we could get, the shorter time it would take. If anyone knows of any Thais in the area that would be willing to do the work (as cheaply as possible) then also pm me, please.

I certainly get her drift and I'm not "lecturing on the morals" of anything. As voluntary work is applauded in western countries, it can be viewed as a breach of

our visas here in Thailand. So as I say, my post is not preachy or offering a lecture -- it's only pointing out the reality of Thai laws.

If this member has somehow had a falling out with the locals, that really is a shame. I hope she does find a way to accomplish her mission of mercy, but (as much as I love dogs and pity their general treatment in Thailand) personally, wouldn't take the chance, especially if there's a possibility that a mob of angry locals could be skulking around looking for a way of making trouble.

I realize that this not what you want to hear, and I'm not trying to make waves for NR, but don't we, as TV members, have some obligation to share our knowledge and the benefit of our experiences? Perhaps I'm wrong in my interpretation of the Thai labor laws, and if so, please correct me. If I am wrong, I'll be the first to apologize for misleading anyone.

Well, share away but it would be better if you sent a donation so she could hire the workers, don't you think? That would be even more helpful than sharing your knowledge.

Good luck NR, if I could, I would but I can't. (happen to be in the US at the moment) Sorry :o

***edit***

Well, I guess that came out a little harsher than I meant. So, I will merely add that as a fairly long-term resident of Thailand I am sure NR is well aware of labor laws and lecturing, while well-meant, is not very helpful when she is asking for help.

Hey, good thinking, sbk! As far as I know, giving money to people isn't illegal in Thailand. Perhaps NR would be better off starting a new thread asking for donations (assuming that's OK by TV forum rules). I assume you've sent her a nice bit of money by Priorty Post, so lets be fair about it. You and I shouldn't be the only ones sending (or being asked to send) NR money for her compassionate project, so encourage her to get a "donations" thread started.

I think the message that people are trying to get across to you pattyboy is that when TV members have a stressful situation, and are asking, nay begging for urgent voluntary physical assistance, they would appreciate positive responses, not the form of response/s that you came forward with.

SBK, good suggestion about donations, I am sure it could be done by PM. As for me, holding a hectic full time job down in BKK does not allow me to participate on weekdays but I have offered my services this weekend if so required.

As I say POSITIVES are needed backs against the wall etc, not holding back frightened of local harrasment !

I am closing this thread as it has not only not been very helpful to NR but is close to abrogating forum rules regarding solicitation.

So, if you are interested in contacting NR for any reason regarding her Rescue Center, please do so by PM.
