My first gastroscopy was in the UK (Essex or Herts NHS). South Asian NHS doctor who tried to do it without sedation. I was gagging and choking of course. So - with an angry look and voice - he said alright we can sedate you. Mild hiatus hernia.

I've had a few since then here in Bangkok (both the upper and lower scopes) and they've always included general anaesthesia and if they find polyps, they snip them and send them to a lab. First two were done at Bumrungrad and two others at Vichaiyut Hospital. The former hospital lets you void yourself in a private room with lazyboy style chair, TV and of course bathroom (toilet) the morning of the procedure, then scopes you and send you to a recovery room. The latter gives you the meds to take home and do the same the night before the scope which is done in the morning. The upper scope goes as far down to the beginning of the small intestine. The lower scope goes all the way up to where the large intestine meets the small intestine.

I immediately called him a liar and told him about the Pattaya

youTuber a few years ago called Kev in Thailand who had eosphagul cancer

The doctor said keep taking Nexium for reflux and walked off rudely

I told him I'm getting a second opinion but he kept walking

I won't let these people lie to me or push me around,

I will go to Pattaya in August and see the farang doctor there who is much much better

Did you notice a condom hanging out of your anus?🙃

BTW - don't get stuck on Nexium for years. I have - not good. Lots of research in last several years found that long term use can inhibit your stomach's ability to absorb vital vitamins (like B12) and minerals (even upset iron production leading to anemia).

He is internationsl liaison person at Phayathai Sri Racha hospital.

He has been with their International Dept for 20 years. As above he is a very good liaison for expats who require hospital info in English (although Scottish in his case).

His Whatsapp is on the email quoted above and he responds quickly. He sometimes gives talks to one of the local Pattaya the Expat Clubs.

He's not a doctor, but he wishes he was, and is happy to give medical advice to people who don't know any better. These people can always find a niche.

Haha...... no, they are here as retirees and are financially self-sufficient, and I never believed in the MSG theory/problem until I dined at a Thai restaurant here with a couple of Thai friends and the first time I felt flulike symptoms coming on even before I finished the whole meal, but dismissed it as just another bug in the air.

However we ate at the same restaurant a few days later and I had the same feeling and for a couple of days I was a bit rough, as the saying goes, so when my friends wanted to go back to this restaurant, I accompanied them but didn't have anything cooked, however I did manage to look around the edge of the kitchen where the "cook" was preparing the food and noticed that he had a large metal bowl fixed above the cooking area into which he would dip his ladle and scoop out what turned out to be a large amount of MSG, and added it to the cooking food.

The Thais were used to it, but I wasn't and I never went back and even now another couple of friends always say, in Thai, "no MSG" when they order food at any restaurant and if the food is delivered and they can tell if MSG has been added, they send it back.

In summary small amounts of MSG I can handle, but large amounts do make me feel like I have flulike symptoms for a couple of days.

I'd take the dental work any day of the week. I've had a few colonoscopies and it was unlike any "filling" I've ever had

He came to visit me in ICU and gave some great advice (non medical) on how to deal with a health issue that will be with me till the grave.

It's not just Nexium, it's every single PPI including miracid. This has been a well known fact for decades, not just last several years.

I found out that miracid works well for me on a need to use basis, which is only once or twice a month. Gaviscon in Thailand is UK standard quality, not the American garbage, so it is quite useful and harmless to treat acid.
