Endoscopy

Featured Replies

Maybe perhaps ask the academics here

This year I have decided to have a Endoscopy

I have had like a heartburn going up to my throat similar to a burning feeling now off & on for over 6 months

My original doctor said it was a disease called GERD

So anyway I decided to ring a endoscopy clinic and book myself in .

But now I just looked to see a ABC reporter die of eosphagul cancer who had similar symptoms to mine and left it too late

So...my question is for those who have had a endoscopy it appears they put a camera down my throat

I'm starting to get scared , will I choke ???

Im taking Nexium it seems to be working but I'm scared of I don't get checked it could be cancer of the oeshagus like the YouTuber had a few years ago

Can anyone elaborate what their endoscopy was like ?

Did you choke ?

Surely it's from kissing arse at your workplace, so should be covered by compo. That's one less stress for you to bear George. If not next Pattaya trip get a young lady to give your throat a rinse!! 👍

Haven't a clue, as I was completely out of it, while having my first DP 🤣

Who's your daddy now ... 😬

Colon/endo combo. Seriously, everyone should get at a certain age, or if concerned about any suspected symptoms of illness.

Could be GERD, or Hiatal Hernia, which I have, but control with diet and timing of foods that produce too much acid.

Comfortable sleeping position helps also, head higher, if on your back, or sleeping on left side, if not a lay flat sleeper.

I have had about 6 gastroendoscopic examinations under full anesthetic over the past 20-odd years and I am still alive, I think. Nothing to worry about.

Your talking about gastroscopy, which is an endoscopy, but so is it from the other end so make sure the camera goes down not up. Either a throat numbing oral spray and you likely will choke or a sedative which will relax you to the extent that you will hardly notice a thing.

My wife has had several, while asleep under anesthetic, says all ok except sore throat for the next two days. Would suggest you get it done.

I got an endoscope and colonoscopy the same day at Samitivej years ago. I was asleep through the whole process. Didn't even wake up between the 2.

No ill effects whatsoever, took a taxi back home that same day and had no issues.

I just hope they did the endoscopy first...

OP: Have you been tested for H Pylori? That's a lot more common than esophogeal cancer.

Perhaps post your results, including video of endoscopy into the gay forum.

About two years ago, I experienced stomach problems and visited Samitivej Hospital in Chonburi City. Following a gastroscopy performed under general anesthesia, I was diagnosed with a Gastritis and GERD. The test for the Helicobacter pylori bacterium, which was also conducted, returned a negative result.

I was advised to change my lifestyle (exercise, diet, stress, etc.). At the same time, I was prescribed a number of medications—including the rather expensive Vocinti (active ingredient: vonoprazan).

After about six months, when there had been little improvement and I no longer had the desire to take medication constantly, I decided to seek a second opinion and consulted a gastroenterologist at Phyathai Hospital Si Racha.

During a follow-up gastroscopy—again performed under general anesthesia—the Helicobacter pylori bacterium was detected. I do not know why it was not identified during the first gastroscopy.

Subsequently, a two-week course of antibiotics—involving two different medications—was prescribed. Four weeks later, a H. pylori breath test was performed, which revealed that the bacterium had disappeared. At the same time, my symptoms—without the use of any further medication—gradually subsided and eventually vanished completely.

Had the endoscopy procedure years ago to eliminate is spot in lung shown on x-ray was harmful. Full awake but was administered, besides the spray, pethedine and some muscle relaxing and anxiety meds. For a first timer quite unpleasant but bearable

Endoscopy in the UK about 5 yrs ago, no sedation or anesthetic as I was driving there and back to the hospital, no problem at all, could see on the screen where the camera was going, took a small biopsy, all clear.

I had H Pylori a year and a half ago, found during my first upper Endoscopy and Colonoscopy, done the same day. I was having Gastritis symptoms for awhile and never had a colonoscopy done in my life so decided to get both. They saw stomach inflammation and I was prescribed the 2 antibiotics and PPI.

After it improved but my stomach was out of whack from the medicines, and this happens a lot. You have to take Probiotics along with following a healthy diet, which I always have, and it's taken this long to get my stomach back to normal. I didn't go for the breath test as it wasn't done in this hospital but they did another upper endoscopy, with the H Pylori test, and it came up negative.

Most humans carry H Pylori but it only affects about 20% or so, and it can lead to stomach cancer if left unattended. GERD can have some of those same symptoms so an upper endoscopy should be done is symptoms don't improve with GERD medicine. I had both done with just a little anesthesia, which didn't make me sleep. and it wasn't too bad. just a little throat irritation. Many people have Gastritis symptoms for too long without checking for H Pylori and that's a huge mistake.

As others have done so - I also have gone through the whole 'hand-shake' process...

Combined Endoscopy / Colonoscopy as a precaution.

I was sedated, so basically slept through it and came around feeling perfectly normal - but doped up.

Spoke with the Dr an hour afterwards - but wasn't really sharp enough to ask the right questions.

Had a follow-up the next day for full results where I realised, the previous afternoon I was basically smashed out of my nut on whatever they'd sedated me with (so - don't plan on driving).

I'm not sure if an Endoscopy is as invasive as a Colonoscopy - the worst part of which is drinking all the muck the night before to clean you out and ensure your hoop is polished and shiny.

Its not big deal - don't over think it - you'll be glad you had the check-up.

He's talking about gastroscopy, which, like colonoscopy, is a form of endoscopy of which there are many other variants. And yes, a gastroscopy is invasive but it seems in Thailand is often done under significant anaesthesia rendering the victim largely unaware of what's happening.

I've had many endoscopies (top down) and a few colonoscopy's(bottom up). The first endoscopy they wanted me to wait hours after before I could leave. After that, no more sedation. A bit of discomfort, finish, put your clothes on leave. Last colonoscopy in 2020, same. No sedation. No problem.

Correct - it was a Gastroscopy and a Colonoscopy that I'd had.

It was not carried out under general anaesthesia - but under IV-sedation, I basically slept through the procedure, I vaguely recall waking up in the middle of the procedure and asking a question - so I think they just gave me a little more to put me back to sleep.....

Ultimately - I was mostly unaware of what was happening as I was out of it - and when I did awaken slightly - I was semi-alert enough to ask about the procedure - but at the same time has no concerns about the procedure whatsoever....

So - I believe the IV-sedation during the process keeps us right on the edge of nodding off and not giving a damn...

Like you, I had both the gastroscopy and the colonoscopy done at the same time at Bangkok Phuket hospital here, and don't remember a thing about it as I was out for the count through IV sedation!

I had suffered from gastric reflux for a number of years which had also turned into Barrett's oesophagus, so although I had a gastroscopy in New Zealand, I thought I would have another one here at the same time as my colonoscopy, and both proved to be negative of any "nasties", thank goodness. This as I was a little worried that the Barrett's oesophagus might have done some damage.

Both procedures done one after the other and totally painless and I was happy to get it over and done with, however I can't remember the cost, so can't be of any help to anyone on that score.

Good point, he didn't say upper endoscopy, gastroscopy. Thought he was talking about a colonoscopy.

My intermittent gastritis has been mostly eliminated by cooking at home, problem with outside they use always the cheapest ingredients plus reuse palm oil etc

Endoscopy just means a procedure using a camera-like instrument. There are dozens of examples, some diagnistic (gastroscopy, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy etc) and some curative (e.g laparoscopic surgery). Which is why posters should be more specific and avoid just saying "endoscopy". OP was referring to gastroscopy but thread now has posts talking about colonoscopy and bronchoscopy.

A couple of folks I know have stopped eating at certain restaurants because excess use of MSG has caused them similar problems!!

You do should have it checked out anyways, it is a very simple precedure, I did one 20 plus years ago. Also had it done when I was having my colon two for one! To each his own but it is nothing here at times depending on where it is done like a overkilled.

I first went to see a specialist, each morning I would have a large black cup of coffee and I'm talking about large not starbucks but good quality coffee. Right after I had this feeling like I was going to have an heart attacked. As soon as I explained by daily routine the doctor said you got this and take this pill. I forget the name now but I think it was preligsi? today one can buy overthecounter.

ca

From conversation, I knew exactly what trigger it, since I didn't do the rest? Coffee = Caffeine,

Spicy food, I once got a sandwich, had a few peppers that trigger it. Research will show soft drinks, coke, caffeine! Alcohol, think and you will find out quickly.

Don't eat large meals, then laid down! I took the pill for near two years and stopped coffee cold turkey! When I had another colon, same time it was checked, I was lucky whatever problem was there no longer showed up. So slowly I started with Decaf from Starbucks, then back to regular coffee but I limit myself to two cups a day. Once in a blue moon I feel something but that is it!

I have had one and found it quite unpleasant.

Ask if you can be sedated.

All the best.

I am eighty and had the procedure under anisetic at the Ram Chaing mai.

Recommended.

I had one procedure done and the Dr. sprays your gag reflex to numb the area so there wasn't an issue with me choking. The Dr. pushed the instrument into my stomach to check for stomach ulcers and obtained pictures of the stomach wall for any issues.

Well I had my procedure done here in Australia $250 health insurance excess

I could of got it free if I used the public hospital system but I would of been on a waiting list maybe for 12 months waiting and probably could of died so I went private clinic using my health insurance and was on there in days

Anyway they took me to a surgery room

, I started to cry as they told me to lay on the table on my left side and I got scared maybe I won't wake up

I felt scared , the nurse called the doctor who was going to do it , he was a young looking man and he told me not to be concerned and was very calm he looked very fit

Then they put some mouth thing in my mouth like a mouthpiece you see on those porn movies for oral sex

and painfully put a needle in my hand to sedate me

The doctor said to me to count to 10

I then woke up later in recovery next to others they gave me banana cake

The doctor later came and said he couldn't find anything wrong with me

He said he had taken a biopsy of my stomach for pylori testing and will get back to me

Is this cancer ? I asked several times

He looked annoyed and become rude

" No should it be ? He replied sternly

I immediately called him a liar and told him about the Pattaya

youTuber a few years ago called Kev in Thailand who had eosphagul cancer

The doctor said keep taking Nexium for reflux and walked off rudely

I told him I'm getting a second opinion but he kept walking

I won't let these people lie to me or push me around,

I will go to Pattaya in August and see the farang doctor there who is much much better
