Trump snubs Vance regarding MAGA succession

Donald Trump appears in no rush to hand over the keys to the MAGA movement — and reports suggest he has been openly picking apart Vice President JD Vance behind closed doors.

As speculation grows about who could inherit Trump's political movement, the president is reportedly reluctant to embrace Vance as the future leader of MAGA. Instead, according to a report by The New York Times, Trump has repeatedly highlighted what he sees as weaknesses in his second-in-command.

The revelations paint a picture of tension at the top of the Republican hierarchy. While Vance is widely viewed as a leading figure in Trump's orbit, the president is said to be far from convinced that his vice president is ready to step into the spotlight.

According to the report, which cites more than a dozen anonymous White House sources, Trump has told allies that Vance has never won a difficult election without his help.

Trump reportedly points to Vance's Ohio Senate victory, arguing that his endorsement helped carry the future vice president across the finish line in a closely fought race.

The president has also reportedly mocked the number of vacations Vance has taken while serving as vice president.

Trump is said to contrast that with his own approach, noting that he generally does not take vacations.

The criticism reportedly extends beyond campaign politics and personal habits.

Trump has repeatedly brought up Vance's initial opposition to launching the administration's war with Iran. According to the report, the president even raised the issue directly in front of Vance.

"I'm more of a peace person than you are — but I had to do it," Trump reportedly told him.

The president is also said to have questioned his decision to send a delegation led by Vance to an international negotiation effort that ultimately failed to bring an end to the conflict. But the reported jabs did not stop there.

According to The New York Times, Trump has focused on moments where Vance may have appeared awkward in public. One example cited was when Vance nearly dropped Ohio State's national football championship trophy during a White House event.

The president has also reportedly teased Vance over his shoes and his habit of inserting himself into conversations.

One particularly striking episode allegedly took place during a breakfast with Republican senators last November.

Trump reportedly praised the discipline of officials working under Chinese President Xi Jinping before turning his attention to Vance.

"Why don't you behave like that?" Trump reportedly asked.

He then continued: "JD doesn't behave like that! JD butts into conversations! I want to have that for at least a couple of days. OK, JD?"

The tensions come as Trump approaches his 80th birthday and questions continue about the future direction of the MAGA movement.

Yet Vance is also facing criticism from outside Republican ranks.

The report notes that Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, who is widely viewed as a potential Democratic presidential contender in 2028, has repeatedly challenged Vance's public image.

Beshear has accused the vice president of overstating his blue-collar roots and misrepresenting his connection to Appalachia.

In an interview cited by the report, Beshear argued that Vance governs in ways that hurt the communities he claims to represent.

"JD Vance doesn't have a real bone in his body," Beshear said.

He also criticized Vance's recent actions, claiming that one week he was appointed "fraud czar" and the next he was defending a new $1.7 billion fund for the Trump administration.

The developments highlight growing questions about the future of MAGA and who, if anyone, could eventually fill Trump's political shoes.

For now, however, the message emerging from the report is clear. While many may see Vance as the heir apparent, Trump himself appears unwilling to crown a successor.

For once I agree with Trump, Vance's the very definition of an empty suit and he is incredibly unlikable. For those reasons I would love to see him run, as I think he's easily beatable.

Yep. Anonymous sources as reported by the NYT. It seems the NYT and the Washington Post have lots and lots of "anonymous sources".

There's only one way. Order of succession. And it's debatable whether it's an improvement.

Peter Theil won’t be happy, he’s spent years and $millions grooming Vance for the WH.

If Trump actually I tends to leave office he will want one of his own spawn for the candidate.

It's either Vance or Rubio. Interested to see who the Dems come up with. The debates will be fantastic but IMO very one sided. Maybe the Dems go with AOC then Vance or Rubio could ask her about the American Revolution for example or what hemisphere is Venezuela in. The list is long. I wonder what accent she would use in a debate.

I expect Trump will try to remain in office.

His plan B will be to install one of his spawn as the candidate.

Since you mention the fellow by name, tell me what teachings of Jesus Trump follows. Since Jesus did not appear in the Old Testament, leave out the vengeful eye for an eye vindictiveness of the nasty deity of that first book. Stick with the New Testament. Pull from the Sermon on the Mount, or Matthew 25, and explain how that and Trump are in alignment. Humility? Caring for the poor? Welcoming the stranger? Trump is the polar opposite of all of that. Trump sits squarely on the Beelzebub side of that spectrum.

Trump pretends he's a Christian so he can pull the dumb demographic of the wacko Christian Nationalist movement, the bozos who have Jesus as their hero but absolute hate his teachings. Those guys probably even think Trump's aphasia is him 'speaking in tongues'.

Despite my liberal leanings---to a point---I could have voted for Mitt Romney, as he is smart and capable, as well as dignified. Mitt, however, saw the writing on the wall, and that the Republicans were distancing themselves from intelligent and dignified, having captured the dumb demographic of chewing tobacco and UFC, F-150s with monster tires and Confederate flags.

Yet you voted for your messiah who claimed the American Revolution army took over the airports and his big, beautiful wall was being built in Colorado.
