Starmer: PM 'To Limp On Until Christmas, Plots Burnham handover

Starmer Clings To Power As Labour Descends Into Civil War

Labour was last night accused of plunging into “chaos” and “paralysis” as reports emerged that Sir Keir Starmer could remain in Downing Street for another six months despite mounting pressure to quit.

The extraordinary plan would reportedly see the deeply unpopular Prime Minister limp on until Christmas before handing power to Manchester Mayor Plots Burnham Succession, triggering fresh fury within Labour ranks and raising fears of government drift at a time of growing international instability.

The Long Goodbye

According to reports, Starmer's allies are quietly preparing a managed transition that would allow him to remain in office after Burnham's expected victory in the Makerfield by-election later this month.

Sources claim the Prime Minister has privately accepted that his position may be untenable if Burnham secures the seat. Rather than forcing a full leadership contest, Labour insiders are said to favour a swift "coronation" of the Manchester Mayor.

But instead of stepping aside immediately, Starmer would remain in No 10 for up to six months, giving him time to deliver one final Budget alongside Chancellor Rachel Reeves and attempt to shape his political legacy.

The proposal has already sparked anger among Labour MPs.

One senior Labour figure reportedly blasted the idea, saying: "Why on Earth should we have a lame-duck Prime Minister in office for six months with his successor waiting on the No 10 doorstep? This is madness."

Defence Plan Stuck In Limbo

Critics warn that Labour's leadership turmoil is already affecting government business.

One major casualty is the long-awaited Defence Investment Plan, a key document designed to outline Britain's military priorities as conflicts continue in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The plan was originally expected last year but remains unpublished amid disputes over funding and spending commitments.

Opposition figures say the delay highlights a government increasingly unable to make decisions.

Conservative Party chairman Kevin Hollinrake accused Labour of "dither and delay", arguing that uncertainty over Starmer's future has left ministers paralysed.

"They can't agree on when the Prime Minister finally goes, they can't publish a defence plan, and they can't decide what the Labour Party even stands for," he said.

Burnham Waiting In The Wings

The speculation comes after former Prime Minister Tony Blair launched a devastating intervention, warning that Labour lacked a coherent governing strategy.

Although Blair reportedly advised Starmer in private to keep fighting, his criticism has intensified questions about Labour's direction.

Meanwhile, fresh polling has boosted Burnham's standing. A survey conducted by Lord Ashcroft found that 32 per cent of voters believe Burnham would make the best Prime Minister, comfortably ahead of Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.

The figures will only fuel speculation that Labour's next leader is already waiting in the wings.

Voters Remain Unconvinced

Yet replacing Starmer may not solve Labour's deeper problems.

The same poll found that only one in five voters believed a new Labour leader would improve the Government's performance, while a majority said a change at the top would make little difference.

Despite the growing rumours, Downing Street insists there are no plans for a transition and points to Starmer's repeated public declarations that he has no intention of stepping down.

But with Labour factions openly manoeuvring, senior figures trading blows, and questions swirling over who is really in charge, critics say the party already looks less like a government and more like a succession battle waiting to happen.

I think Starmer is now permanently limp and will continue flip-flopping for the rest of his life.

Perhaps he can visit the Ukrainian rent boys in Belmarsh accused of his Arson.

He'll be replaced with a globalist who is just as bad. Citizens really have no choice in politics. They have the worst idiots in the world who work for the benefit of the elites or transnational corporations. The public? "Let them eat cake (flour)."

Burnham may well not win in Makerfield.

George Galloway has said he may throw his hat in the ring for the vacant Manchester mayors seat.

If Burnham wins both the by-election and Labour leadership, I expect he'll make Starmer Foreign Secretary.
