June 5Jun 5 Popular Post I thought id throw in a thread away from the usual threads so lets see how this goes. Im 68 now but as a kid growing up i was watching my favourite programmes at the time late 60s and early 70s. For me it was Fireball Xl5 I was Steve Zodiac launching myself down that Ramp and zooming off into outer space with my bird sat next to me Venus. As i got older it was Thunderbirds then as i got into my Teens i liked UFO and space 1999. What fond memories do our members have particularly when they were kids.

Many years ago I visited an outback cattle station do do a job I think I was about 12 or 13 with my father .We were sitting outside having lunch under a mango tree with the farmer and his family. The grandfather who was about 90 said to me son , I can't work out what's happening to the world these days . When I asked him what do you mean ol timer he replied... Well , when I was your age everybody used to sh*t outside and eat inside and but now everyone eats outside and sh*ts inside.
June 8Jun 8 Being a kid in Canada was great. Even school was fun. You did not have Mom watching and making sure you were close to home. Hell, she was happier when I was gone for the day, and she did not have to put up with my friends and me continually going in and out of the house.During the summer, it was going to movies or playing baseball, swimming, and playing hockey, both road and ice, in the winter.Weeknds were the bestSummer was stock car races, going with my dad to the garage, working with adults; Saturday night was fishing for mudcats, working on cars and being the errand boy when someone needed a beer.
June 8Jun 8 Author I'm more interested in the Cartoons or series you liked to watch as a kid not what your life was journey was.
June 8Jun 8 For me, in the 1940s early 1950s, it was Disney cartoons at the local cinema, Dick Barton stories on the radio, and Raymond Glendenning commentaries on football also on the radio.

The Lone Ranger, Sky King, The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin, Fury, Sgt. Preston of the Yukon, The Cisco Kid, The Adventures of Wild Bill Hockok, Colt .45, Have Gun – Will Travel, Rawhide, Roy Rodgers, The Gene Autry show, Whispering Smith, and My Friend Flicka were the shows I loved. There were others on different days and in the evening. I was going to be a Cowboy! And, then, reality steps in.
June 8Jun 8 I remember in the 70's during the school summer holidays watching 'Why Don't you?' every day. It had a catchy song and was basically trying to encourage kids to switch off the TV and do something purposeful. Bearing in mind this was ON TV they shot themselves in the foot a bit. 555It had the Banana Splits on during the program which was fantastic (try and remember the four names without looking them up). Arabian Nights cartoon if I remember correctly and I think the Monkees TV show. Evenings would be the very strange cartoon 'Roobarb (sic) & Custard', Captain Pugwash and The Clangers.Late 70's I liked Worzel Gummidge with Jon Pertwee.
June 8Jun 8 casey jones, champion the wonder horse, banana splits, thunderbirds, stingray , joe 90, marine boy, captain scarlett. UFO. Dr Who.
June 8Jun 8 Similar age and favourites. As a grew up ....Fireball XL5>Stingray > Thunderbirds > Captain Scarlet > UFOI vaguely remember Supercar, but was too young. And by the time Joe 90 came out, I was too old for kids stuff 😅

June 8Jun 8 HR puff n stuff that was weird and so was "The Owl service" Saturday mornings took on a whole new meaning with the legendary "Tiswas" There was some awful stuff which I avoided, "vision on" was never a favorite, couldn't stand "the double deckers" and don't even mention "sesame street" A bit later "grange hill" was cool, Dukes of Hazard , Knight Rider, Baywatch , ( of course)

I was an ABC Minor lol.I remember watching the 1966 World Cup final (in colour) at the ABC cinema, not long after the actual event (which I had already seen on B&W TV). Not sure whether it was at the Minors Club or just the regular cinema. The colour version was just amazing. It was almost like being there.

I used to frequent the ABC Minors club at the cinema in Doncaster. Had to collect 9 badges A,B,C, M,I,N,O,R,S and then you got a bigger badge with your name on it.Those were the days when the cinema was affordable unlike now where you need to apply for a second mortgage just to watch a movie.Childhood memories, Capt Scarlett, Thunderbirds, Joe 90 and Batman followed later by multi coloured swap shop, Tiswas and Vision on. Let’s not forget Blue Peter, Magpie and How. Edited June 9Jun 9 by Utalk2mutt
June 9Jun 9 I was an Army brat and a lot of my childhood was spent abroad. Most times there wasn't American tv so my siblings and I had to make our own entertainment--we were outside a lot and if we couldn't be outside we did card and board games. We did go to the movies, rather than watch much tv. We were much less supervised with our outdoor activities than kids are these days. On one of Dad's assignments, I think it was Japan, we got only one or two American tv shows each week--I remember one was The Defenders. I do remember seeing some cartoons growing up--Tweety Bird, Elmer Fudd, Donald Duck, and so on. My favorite was the one that had Boris and Natasha.
June 9Jun 9 The original Star Trek, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Disneyland on Sunday evenings. I don't remember the rest. As a kid I spent more time outside than watching TV. In fact, for many years we didn't even have a TV set in the house.
