Tax policy for seniors

Featured Replies

The Bhumjaithai Party has a tax policy for seniors (60 years):

Senior Citizen Plus 2 is for senior citizens with an annual income not exceeding 1.5 Million Baht, eligible for a tax deduction of up to 50%.

It would appear to be just a policy proposal at this stage.

Also are you sure it is not just aimed at senior citizens in employment?

The $64,000 question, though, is whether this would be in addition to, or instead of, the existing ฿190k exemption for those aged 65 and over.

Agree.

As it stands now, I have 500,000 baht in deductions in the existing exemptions. Add my non-taxable Social Security, and I already owe nothing.

This has the potential to make things rather messy in filing tax returns if it is. At present, salaries, wages and pensions are lumped together under A1 on the second page of the PND91 form:

I may be blind, but I don't see anything on that document in the form of itemized tax deductions other than " Less exempted income".

And you're not eating or drinking, not using electricity, right?

Income is income. Savings on which tax may or may not have been paid are savings.
