Jai Dee
Department of Mental Health says suicidal rate in Thailand is reducing The Director-General of the Department of Mental Health, M.L. Somchai Chakrapan (สมชาย จักรพันธุ์), says September 10th marks the World Suicide Prevention Day, and this year’s theme is Preventing Suicide across the Lifespan. M.L. Chakrapan says Thailand’s suicidal rate continues to decrease in the past decade. In 1999, about 8.6 out of 100,000 Thai people committed suicide, or about 5,000 people per year. Last year, the figure dropped to 5.77 out of 100,000, or around 3,612 people per year. M.L. Chakrapan says the figure is considered low in comparison to the figures in Sri Lanka, Japan and Korea. M.L. Chakrapan says most suicidal cases are in northern Thailand, and suicide is a worrying issue in Lampoon province. Meanwhile, the number of suicide cases in the eastern provinces of Thailand has increased, especially in Rayong province. He says the rising figure could be due to the industrial estate and the work surroundings in the province. He says the major causes of suicide include depression, economic problems and family issues, and there are more male cases than female cases by threefold. TAWP
Mid>> As a comment in jest it wasn't to be taken literal. How ever, if the suicide rate is high enough even newborn/children growing up won't offset a trend-break.

Scott
Tighter visa restrictions probably also means that there aren't as many people jumping from condos in Pattaya as in the past.
Farma
The health ministry should look at it’s workforce as well. I know of 3 of their staff from 1 province who’ve committed suicide in the past 12 months. 1 Pharmacist, 1 dentist and a nurse, all women. 1 of those in the past week. Hanging 2, jumping off a bridge 1.
Suszzy
suicide is weakness!! and is not the answer to the problem. i don't understand people who chose to do that rather than dealing with difficult times or maybe..it's just too much for some people.
