How to download the app when "not available in the region"?l

Playing against Google is not easy as Google keeps moving the goal posts.

As of last year the situation was as follows.

Does Google know your credit card? If yes, Google will use the country of your card, forget about changing it.

Changing the country is not advisable anyway because you cannot change it back within one year.

Better go to phone settings > apps > playstore > storage > delete data.

Then use the VPN to open a second account as described by other posters, you can switch accounts on one device, back and forth.

Dearie me, some people have come fairly close to the correct answer but you've all missed what is actually necessary to do and that is clearly laid out in Google's help documents if only you'd bother to read them like wot I done! As someone who uses the "Play Store" on Android in four countries it is really simple. No you don't need to have separate accounts or any of the other silly myriad of suggestions already made.

Your access to a "Play Store" (PS) of a country is very simply determined by the payment cards that you have got on your Google account. So if you want access say to the UK PS then register a payment card from the UK. If you want access to the Thai PS then register a payment card from Thailand. If you want access to other PS's, simply register a payment card from the country concerned.

This is ENTIRELY separate from your Google allocated "Country of residence" which is where you spend most time but can be changed once a year if you really want to change it. Once you have access to another PS then you will keep it even if you delete the payment card for that country. Maybe access will eventually be revoked, I don't know, but all you'd then need to do is to register a payment card for that country again.

Simples!

Britman gave the most correctly correct answer.

I would advise against downloading APK. I have done it with non financial apps, but will never touch them with anything related to finance and banking.

That is only partially correct. You have to be physically in the country or use VPN. Of course, VPN is against Google terms of service, so it does carry a risk.

Sideloading the app, ie install it from another source, is dangerous, as has been mentioned.

Simple...download from a reliable source as I do.

The suggestions on this thread to change your Play store regional locations etc will definitely not work. Google Play has a sophisticated system in place to prevent this obvious move.

Using non-Play stores is the only real option. Out of these non-optimal options, Aurora is by far the best since it extracts the App from the Google Play store itself. It is still vulnerable to malware etc but you don't have a better option.

If you can't find the App on Aurora then use Aptoide.

Your phone will probably try to prevent you doing this. Override whatever settings are preventing the download and go ahead and download. Then pray to Kali that none of your money or financial data etc is stolen by hackers over the next few weeks.

I had the same problem as OP and used the work-around I posted.

That was last year.

Correct, with the caveat @celsius added:

But not everybody wants to give Google 4 payment cards.

I never mentioned Banking apps...both my UK Bank apps are available in PlayStore...my UK mobile app is not and I use CNet to keep me updated...or Aptoid...never a problem.

OP is about a "bank app".

Just read it

As others said allready. Create a new google account with a UK adress for a UK region and UK playstore (use a VPN). Enter a UK credit card in the personal details on your account (google use IP adress and credit card to determine in which region you are located).

You will then be able to switch your google accounts to switch your 'country playstore'.

However, it is still possible that google (sometimes after several months) send you an information mail saying you are in a different region and that they will change your playstore country in x days (I assume they know beceause of GPS).

You are able to insist, reason e.g. travelling a lot between countries.

At least in my case I was succesfull and they did not change the playstore region on my second google account.

I'm not sure having a payment card for each country is essential, i only have one, UK and use it for both UK and Thailand playstores

Credit Card or Debit Card is just one of several indications for google.

Adress, IP adress, Phone Network, WLan, GPS, your registred locations are others. Your Thai account will not be an issue when you spent most of the time in Thailand. Your UK account could be an issue if you life most of the time in Thailand but as you have a UK credit card linked to this account this could be ok. It worked for me several years untill they want to change the country on my 'Swiss account'.
