Featured Replies

Going to Pattya area the next few days to source some local restaurant equipment. Among other things I would like to buy a Chicken BBQ Rotisserie or see some locally made up jobs that I can photographe and have it made up.

Any ideas where I can find/see any.

Just find a 5 Star Chicken joint. "Gai Ha Dao". They are roasting all day every day.

Thank you but do NEED over a drum charcoal pit .

Ratanakorn market on Thepprasit, on the left as you turn in, big rotisserie with many chickens, charcoal type

Not Pattaya but is this the sort of thing?

Cooking over charcoal, he's also using a solar panel to run the spits.

Solar power to the left of the pickup.

Well young man!

I AM looking to have a rotisserie seeminly cranked by a monkey!!

Outside Witherspoons, S bend @ soi bucket

I made one a few years ago for my bar in Koh Lanta.

I used a 1/2HP electric motor with the keyway in. I then mounted a large bicycle tire that pressed against the keyway. I welded a sheave on the bicycle axel shaft. I then got a long belt and mounted another bicycle tire rim and connected the belt to the sheave and around the rim. I welded on another sheave to the rim axel.

I got a 1" round steel pipe and welded on a small bike rim to one end. I put on another belt connecting the 2 rims.

I cut a thick steel drum in half, putting one half inside the other. This was my charcoal pit. I welded up half an A-Frame a covered it in sheet metal and painted it to look like the Thai Flag. Welded catches on the frame to hold the steel pipe. I welded on steel plumbing fittings on the pipe, on each side of the catch, to keep it from moving side to side while turning. It worked like a hot damn the first try. I had no idea what was going to happen when I built it, but it went from 1700 RPM from the motor to 1 revolution on the spit every 10 seconds. The combination of the friction loss at the tire and motor shaft combined with gearing of the 2 belts magically came out to this reduction in RPM. I was flabbergasted that my stoned idea worked the first go.

I barbecued whole goat, pork butt ends, 4 or 5 whole chickens. Tourists loved it and took many pictures. Unfortunately, my pictures of it were on my IPad which gave up life and so I have no record to show you.

I mounted the setup on a piece of plywood and used wood to mount the wheels. This was just to try it out to see what happens. Since it worked, I left it as is. Over the years it loosened up a bit and I had to readjust it and brace it at times. I would make it all out of steel tubing the next time.

I could draw you a picture if you send me a PM.

I still have the motor and I'm thinking of building another one. I just met an Ozzy in the town store the other day and he wants one as well.
