Don't suppose you think someone had a word in his Ear bannork ? if they put up the original MP or just another local councillor he would have been defeated by Reform so it was best to put a big name in. Why was Burnham not allowed to stand in Denton banork ? as usual i have asked this before but failed to get an answer just a swerve.

BM, these are rhetorical questions you pose above.

Any cursory use of Google or our new friend, AI, will reveal why the original MP stood down, Burnham took his place, and why Burnham couldn't stand in Denton.

BBC Audience Laughs as Zia Yusuf Sidesteps MP Selection Question

OIP-2557662912.jpg

Reform UK's home affairs spokesperson Zia Yusuf faced an awkward moment on BBC Question Time after refusing to directly answer whether he had been passed over by his own party as a parliamentary candidate, prompting laughter and applause from the studio audience.

The exchange unfolded during a heated debate over political accountability, with Yusuf insisting critics had made false assumptions about his efforts to stand for elected office.

Tense Clash Over Electoral Record

The confrontation began when Conservative Party chairman Kevin Hollinrake challenged Yusuf over his lack of elected experience.

Hollinrake questioned why Yusuf had not stood in recent parliamentary by-elections despite regularly criticising politicians. Yusuf responded by accusing his opponent of making "hugely presumptuous" assumptions and rejected the suggestion that he had never put himself forward.

Pressure Mounts on Live TV

Pressed further, Yusuf declined to confirm whether he had actually sought selection in a by-election. He said Reform UK has its own candidate selection process and suggested Hollinrake misunderstood how candidates are chosen.

When Hollinrake asked directly, "Did they reject you?", the audience erupted in laughter and applause, turning the exchange into one of the programme's standout moments.

Silence Speaks Volumes

Host Fiona Bruce attempted to clarify the issue, asking whether Yusuf was confirming that he had applied to stand but had not been selected.

Yusuf replied only that it was inaccurate to claim he had never put himself forward. Bruce then summarised her understanding—that he had sought selection but was unsuccessful—and invited him to correct her if she was wrong.

Yusuf did not respond, leaving the audience to interpret the silence for themselves.

Questions Remain Unanswered

Yusuf did not identify which parliamentary by-election he may have sought to contest, nor did he say whether Reform UK had declined his application.

The exchange has fuelled fresh scrutiny over candidate selection within Reform UK and highlighted the political risks of ambiguity under the spotlight of live television. Without further clarification from Yusuf or the party, questions over his parliamentary ambitions are likely to persist.

That doesn't realy why the labour party refused to let Burnham run in Denton bannork and no wants to answer this question. Maybe its because Labour felt safe in a smaller constituancy like Makerfield.

Burnham was blocked from running in Denton because Starmer didn't want him in parliament and Starmer still had enough support within the PLP and the NEC to allow him to do so. That support and power base eroded and Starmer was no longer in a position to impose his will on the party. If he had tried to do so, it would have almost certainly triggered a leadership election.

So let Burnham stand and await the outcome, neither of which would be good for Starmer. Burnham won and we have seen the outcome. Had Reform won, there would have been mounting pressure on Starmer to resign, but he might have brought himself some time and the (almost certainly) vain hope that his position would improve quickly.
