First we have the Blue Lagoon pool you hike up to and the swimming hole just below it.

Then we have the hot springs which are among the best I have found in Thailand. Then you can enjoy the mangrove walk through the groves with crystal clear water to cool off and swim in. There is much more than Ao Nong and Raillay in Krabi.

Finish off the day on the outskirts of Krabi town and climb the 1250 steps up to the temple. Hard, in fact very hard slog, but so rewarding at the top.

Rocky! We definitely need more new threads from you. Don´t overdo it now. One a day for the morning coffee would be nice, so we just get confirmed we can control ourselves and refrain from getting hot coffee in our lungs.

Depends, relative to, but for myself, depending who here talking about TH, they usually overrate TH, as in 'their' best interest, or underrate it, as having little experience, and are the grumpy, never out of their '15 minute city' environment.

Myself, comparing to past experiences, TH is way overrated by most ... BUT ... very nice landscape, when you can see it, think outside smog season.

Museums, a couple nice ones, though extremely repetitive: Phimai HP, Phanom Rung HP, Mueang Sing HP (Kanchanaburi), Ban Chiang (Udon), if into history.

Art museums, come down to 'eye of beholder', and Thai's are crap, compared to others I've visited. One at Pak Chong, Khao Yai Art Museum (private collection) was only nice one, and 'art' is a stretch.

Not much if anything in TH, is 'world class', IMHO Not a dig, just reality, if you been elsewhere. I can get the 'Asian flare' at any Chinatown section of any major USA city. Though may have to plead ignorance, as never been to China, S. Korea or Japan.

Been to all of them 3 times. Would not go back as too many tourists. Krabi was good until 2015. Rather go back to Phattalung as great caves and similar landscapes without the tourists. Only the lake gets tourists.

Those photos don't look like yours. They come from the internet. Koh Lanta has been ruined by tourism too. It was so quiet pre 2010. Koh Samet another.

By 2035 I fear all the islands will be ruined and many of the coastal towns.

Underrated and usually overlooked: The Royal Thai Airforce Museum.

As with everything, choose wisely, if not wanting to be around tourist. Fine example of, Ao Nang sucks, unless wanting to be in the busy tourist area. But 15 minutes away, or less, few if any tourist, the underrated spots most never see or stay at, on the cheap at that:

Surprised his mum let's him use the Internet, there's a law in Australia 🇦🇺 that forbids kids access to grown-up sites 🤔

Very much so especially if you have kids as they can sit in the cockpits of the aircraft. Huge exhibition of planes and helicopters going back to Thailands first flight. The staff speak English so its even nicer. A really nice day out. There are also simulators you can try and fly with. The officer you see giving the tour to the kids is a neighbor so she is always happy to help.

Underated? Thai women

Overated ? Thai food

Let me explain. Homemade Thai food made from scratch is not overrated. Genuine Thai restaurants that do not cheat with cheap shortcuts are also a different story, but then the dishes are often double price or more.

Cheap Thai restaurant food often is overrated. Fried in cheap oil, sometimes old oil, with too much sugar, salt, and flavor enhancers. That version is unhealthy, and in my opinion, overrated.

Both are superior within their own rules. You cannot dismiss either. I love boxing, but I cannot stand taking kicks to the calves and shins, or elbows to the face. Too old for that <deleted> now.

The total package in Thailand is the best for me. If you want to find negatives, it is easy to make a list. But if you want to find positives, that is mostly more about you than anything else.

It is a mindset, not just reality.

Yea, the negatives are minor and very small % of TH. Most is very positive, and quite lovely, especially during rainy season. The few overly congested tourist areas, are easily avoided, or enjoyed, if that's one's thing.

Just around the corner from them, Nakhon Nowhere works for us.

You are way underrated, Rocky.

It's mind-blowing that your reputation is -3800.

Should be much closer to 0, at the very least.

Been to Ao nang, just outside the busy beach road. The nice thing about visiting tourisy places is they have everything you need in walking distance. Knowing how to avoid the tourist traps and head to the good seafood joints is a must.

Drove to Koh Lanta, but for a few days it was pretty desolate. Of course we stayed at 5 star joints on the beach.

If you put an IMHO it would be fine. But a part time budget tourist really should not be making statements like this. Krabi is a huge province especially when you factor in the marine part of it. Phi Phi, boat tours out to Koh Phai and Koh Yung. Then you have Koh Hong and the four island tour, Koh Poda, Koh Gai and Koh Tub and Koh Mor which emerge with the tides and can be walked to from Koh Gai.

That is the marine side and earlier in this thread I gave other very interesting sites mostly off the tourist trail.
