Im too young to retire. Also get bored in one spot. Plus the visas are no good. Other guys do what i do. One guy works 7 days a week for 6 months then stays in thailand for 6. I think like a Thai. Probably Thai in a past life.

Yeah, sorry it's weird.

If people keep going back to Pattaya, we know why they're there.

But continually coming back to Thailand every year and exploring every corner of the country is weird. There are so many other countries to travel to.

It is a known type of Western foreigner you see in Thailand. It is less common than it was 20 to 30 years ago, but still present, especially in the more remote provinces. They arrive and quickly decide they have found something close to paradise, and from that point their focus shifts heavily toward immersion in Thailand. This often includes an assumption that Thai ways are generally better, combined with a strong effort to integrate with locals, adopt local habits, eat local food, and gain acceptance. It becomes a "going native" pattern of behavior. It comes across as excessive and lacking in balance. There is also a tendency for some of them to lose a clear sense of personal identity.

I have seen this over the years. It is not a large group, but I have met enough to notice a pattern. A common feature is a reduced interest in other foreigners, and sometimes a degree of distancing from their own home country. They also often appear to be on limited budgets. I am not suggesting a single cause links all of these traits, but it is a recurring type of foreigner I have encountered in Thailand more than once. That said, all the ones I've seen who fit this profile have definitely been weird. More like troubled I would say.

First we have the Blue Lagoon pool you hike up to and the swimming hole just below it.

Then we have the hot springs which are among the best I have found in Thailand. Then you can enjoy the mangrove walk through the groves with crystal clear water to cool off and swim in. There is much more than Ao Nong and Raillay in Krabi.

Finish off the day on the outskirts of Krabi town and climb the 1250 steps up to the temple. Hard, in fact very hard slog, but so rewarding at the top.

And they underrate the health risks of not exercising, drinking heavily, and being exceedingly overweight.

Underated? Thai women

Overated ? Thai food

Let me explain. Homemade Thai food made from scratch is not overrated. Genuine Thai restaurants that do not cheat with cheap shortcuts are also a different story, but then the dishes are often double price or more.

Cheap Thai restaurant food often is overrated. Fried in cheap oil, sometimes old oil, with too much sugar, salt, and flavor enhancers. That version is unhealthy, and in my opinion, overrated.

I have been saying the above for an eternity now.

Furthermore, is there a problem with this board and why does it keep double posting when we click on quote??

I am sure the mods have seen this, but when we click on quote, it's constantly double posting the quote.

If you have sufficient funds, you can retire at any age. Young or older.

Underrated: Thai public transport; river boats, buses, trains

Overrated: Flying ..... spend longer in queues than you do in the air

Flying to Koh Samui, and Hua Hin to Chiang Mai, unless you travel with a decent sized motorbike.

The roads and Traffic in most parts of Thailand is underrated.

Trains and boats are great but buses are dangerous.

Boats, as a seaman I can assure you, are not safe at all. I prefer the bus from Chaiyaphum when we are both going abroad. It is safe and convenient, at least the line we use.

What are some things that are underrated and some that are overrated?

Underrated - National museum

Overrated - Jim Thompson's house

Underrated - train system

Overrated - bars

Underrated - Phattalung

Overrated - Krabi

Uhhhh

Phatthalung is a landlocked province.

Same beachfront hotels as Chiang Mai, but twice as much.

Underated for good reasons.

P.S. Underated - Jim Thompson's house

Living museum of the dangers of smoking cigarettes in Asia.

How to tell if someone calls Thompson house overrated but has never been to Jim Thompson's house if they don't understand why I wrote the last sentence.

Wait for it. 😁

I went there and walked out 5 minutes later lol

Tourist trap!

I've used Air Chaiyaphum buses a few times, and they seemed OK. Also use the Chao Phraya Express Boats regularly, and they seem safe enough for a river trip. The boats to the islands look less safe to me, but I can swim 😀

The spy themed cocktail bar at Jim Thompson House is worth a visit.

How do you know members have drinking issues?

I never said they did. But there are many idiots who believe getting drunk in a bar is heaven on earth. That mentality does not shout intelligent

Intelligent people don't live to 200. If people like drinking that's there choice.

Getting drunk in a room with a woman is fun. Getting drunk in a bar is boring to me.

It is their choice of course but it isn't the cleverest thing to do is it?

What are your hobbies.

I gave up trainspotting and stamp collecting when I was 12.

Flower arranging doesn't really excited me.
