I'm pretty sure, even though Israelis have destroyed Gaza, it's still a stalemate. Maning, that neighter side will accept "defeat". Though neither can "win", they're both to proud to even think of "losing". I agree, Hamas militants need to be 'eliminated' or be convinced there's nothing to be gain from further violence. By destroying Gaza, Israel has thrown Palestinians into the embrace of Hamas. Israel did that by its overreaction. I'm not sure the result would have been different had Israel not decimated Gaza. It should be obvious to both sides after three years that violence is not going to solve this. Negotation--Israel paying reparations to rebuild Gaza would be a start--and continued active diplomacy are what's needed if both sides can dismiss the warhawks. “In August 2005, a Likud-led government headed by Ariel Sharon staged a unilateral Israeli pull-out from Gaza, withdrawing all 8,500 settlers and destroying the houses and farms they had left behind. To the world, Sharon presented the withdrawal from Gaza as a contribution to peace. But in the years that followed, more than 12,000 settlers moved into the West Bank, consolidating Israeli control.” -- Avi Shlaim, Anti-Zionist Israeli historian
