HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (AP) — A Detroit-area community has banned LGBTQ+ flags from publicly owned poles after a tense hourslong meeting that raised questions about discrimination, religion and the city's reputation for welcoming newcomers.

In protest, a woman speaking during the public comment portion of the Hamtramck City Council meeting kissed a woman standing next to her Tuesday night.

"You guys are welcome," council member Nayeem Choudhury said. "(But) why do you have to have the flag shown on government property to be represented? You're already represented. We already know who you are."

I’m curious how “there” is even a place. How does a town form that is 40% foreign born? And even if they have kids, they might as well be foreign born too, seeing the kind of countries that they hail from…mostly 3rd world dysfunctional countries. So it’s really probably 80% foreign…or more.

I brought my kids to nude beaches...and my Mom! We had a good laugh with the guy to had like 97 rings on his dick...and a parrot! Not all nudes beaches at like that. This was NJ.) I've never worn clothes in my house and my kids have always known 'fit Part A into Slot B' just like IKEA.

First Muslim-majority town (27k) in USA.

There is nothing here to suggest that the residents are any less hard-working than “the Irish, Jews, Italians and Puerto Ricans” (who incidentally are…Americans!).

So what other flags do we see on public poles? The only ones I remember are the black POW-MIA flags on the Jersey Turnpike (funny, they weren’t on the GSP).

I’d actually like to see some gay people weigh in. Why is the Pride flag important? Pride parades? Why not? But the flags I don’t get.

The assumption here is that a Muslim town council would not want to tout Pride because they’re conservative, just like far more white folks. It certainly won’t “protect” their children. They’ll grow up gay...or not.

I really like the idea of a big Pride Parade in Hamtramck!
