By that time, I'd long left the boring world of formal education - well into the "School of Life" though.

The ting is, i'm not sure when that course actually completes!

I don't think that kind of learning ever ends , well not until the inevitable occurs, but for sure that is the real education that beats any school or uni in my opinion

So true - I watch University Challenge on TV and am amazed by some of the non-subjects some students are studying.

I've always wanted to go on to be announced as "VBF from the real world, reading The Beano" 😂

me too generally a better class of teachers and students at grammar schools, The local comprehensive near me was like a menagerie , a training ground for borstal ,

Much the same for me. My older brother still holds a grudge after 50 years. He failed the 11 plus.

When I went school in the mid sixties the recruitment process for IT people was a set of puzzles in the weekend (times?) newspaper.

Fill in the answer and cut it out and appl through the post. How times gave changed!

Mind you we put brave men on the moon back then so it couldn't have been all bad.

That's a challenge initially, but as I've found over the years, in engineering and management, everyone has something to bring to the table. A strong team involves a lot of people, from non trades upwards. The secret is to talk less and listen more.

The education you got 40 years ago isn't necessarily relevant today. However the wisdom you have developed definitely is. Use it wisely.

When you next hire a project team, if you have done it right, you should be the dumbest person at the table.

They should all be smarter than you or you aren't doing your job.

i couldn't agree more but unfortunately these days our old fashioned bias would not get us very far and could get us sacked in some companies.. These days if you have hired a team based on anything other than diversity, ethnicity, or sexual identity then not only have you failed to tick countless boxes but you have left yourself wide open to accusations of bigotry, racism and trans/ homophobia etc and could be prosecuted by any member of a minority group that you failed to employ That's not the rubbish we were taught at the grammar school, but its the kind of cr4p they teach em these days
