Two Thai residents of Hua Hin died after jumping from the 16th floor of a hotel building in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan, in the early hours of 7 June 2026. The man, aged 43, and the woman, aged 29, were found dead near each other on the ground below the building, having sustained severe head injuries.

Police were alerted to the incident at 3.00am. Responding officers included Pol Lt Apichai Buranakul, Deputy Investigation Inspector at Hua Hin Police Station, along with Pol Col Kampanat Na Wichai, Superintendent of Hua Hin Police Station, forensic officers, detectives and rescue personnel from Sawang Hua Hin Dhammasathan Foundation.

Investigators found a handwritten suicide note inside the couple’s hotel room. According to police, the note contained apologies to family members, references to exhaustion from life problems and a message asking the man’s mother to take care of herself.

Officers reported finding no signs of a struggle or evidence that property inside the room had been disturbed. The bodies were transported to Hua Hin Hospital for a detailed post-mortem examination.

CCTV footage reviewed by investigators showed the couple leaving their room at approximately 2.45am. The footage reportedly showed them taking a chair to the 15th floor before continuing to the 16th floor.

Police said the footage captured the pair embracing shortly before they jumped from the building, falling to an area near the third-floor level. Both died from their injuries.

The man’s mother later arrived at the scene in a distressed state. She told officers that her son may have been under significant stress due to debts owed to illegal lenders, which she believed could have been a contributing factor in the tragedy.

Authorities have not confirmed a motive and said investigations are continuing. Police are examining all available evidence, including the note and CCTV footage, as they work to establish the exact circumstances leading to the deaths.

There's more to this than simple debt, someone robbed them of their life savings in one of these saving schemes which Thais like to put money into.

My Mrs knew these people and they were hard working people robbed by <deleted>

How could one prefer this to legal euthanasia???

Some Thais 'len share', a group puts in an agreed amount per person each month, then whoever offers the highest interest rate that month, gets the kitty.

Then there is the treasurer, a guarantor of funds in case the borrower doesn't pay back at the agreed rate, or doesn't pay back at all.

If you don't borrow from the kitty, then you can accumulate a fair sum over say 12 months as other members compete to offer higher and higher interest rates.

Of course a borrower, or worse, the treasurer, may do a runner and the members lose everything.

Nowadays with everything online, I dread to think how much money is circulating round in various schemes like this, plus legal ones such as Co-op funds where members may pay in for years, only for the board members to disappear or claim bankruptcy.

But this couple were still relatively young, 43 and 29. So sad they took this way out.

I heard something like this happened here and left people well out of pocket and there's an ongoing related court case which has been dragged out for a very extended length of time with no end in sight.

The Hua Hin Thai language facebook groups are full of outraged Thais about this.

What? Suicide and euthanasia are two completely different concepts. Your attempt to equate the two is why supporters of euthanasia have to overcome multiple hurdles to allow people with terminal illness to die with dignity. Euthanasia is for people who are dying and are at the end of their life. Please educate yourself and stop trying to shove your simplistic bankrupt 1970's socio- political ideology on everyone.

A woman can't just walk into a bar and instantly make bank unless she's incredibly attractive and (usually) young. I knew one who did it on Soi 6 but even then it took her months to pay back what she owed, and all it cost her was her soul.

Do not go gentle into that good night....

RIP. Just terrible. Could anyone have done anything to prevent this outcome? That's the question that will haunt their loved ones forever.

You can't even look up suicide statistics without being given a suicide hotline or some references to get help

But this is reflective of a worldwide trend in young adults giving up losing hope losing their identity jobs or livelihood.

We need to develop our identity outside our roles.

Father? What happens if your kids tragically die? What happens to your identity then?

Husband? What happens if your wife leaves you?

Occupation? What happens if you lose your job? What are you then?

We are not any of that.

Her restaurant went bankrupt during Covid.

Debt was close to 1 million baht.

Covid financial casualties still exist even today.

But I know to desperate people it doesn't look that way.

Apparently they lost all their money to a pyramid scheme..or some other scam...bit hard to get exact info from my thai wife.

A number of years ago, a well known member of the UK music industry retired in Thailand came home one day only to find his wife of 20+ years hanging from a rope in the garage.

It emerged she was the treasurer of such a share fund and over time had embezzled over four million Baht, used mostly to buy expensive gifts for her very demanding son from a previous relationship. The gifts included a new car, condominium, designer clothing and foreign trips for the son and his GF. She had told her husband that she had sold old family farmland to get the money. He had no clue.

He had a Usufruct on the house and chose to keep living there but the wife's son, relatives, and the defrauded members of the share made his life hell, harassing him, filing endless lawsuits, physically threatening him and vandalizing the property in an effort to get him to abandon it. He hung on for a while but ultimately his own health issues forced him to return to the UK. He passed away there several years later.

It's so sad how large amounts of money, even for the ostensibly comfortable can quickly destroy everything, including their lives, itself.

This is not sad. These people were idiots. Leaving other people to clean up their mess because they wanted to check out of life.
