A Thai caretaker has been arrested after allegedly stealing a valuable record collection, claimed to be worth more than 12.5 million baht from a Swiss man in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Swiss national Peter Kalt reported that more than 1,000 vinyl records and 400 CDs had disappeared from his home in Hin Lek Fai subdistrict. The collection, built over many years while he lived and worked in Chicago and Switzerland before relocating to Thailand, was described as both financially valuable and deeply personal.

Kalt told police he suspected a Thai caretaker, later identified as Ritsanisanaphat “Aoi” Sasiphatninrat, who had been assigned to care for him through a local nursing service. According to Kalt, the caretaker had previously spoken about financial difficulties and had asked him and his wife for money.

The caretaker was reportedly removed from her position before the disappearance of the collection was discovered. Kalt said he later sought assistance from local media and online communities after receiving limited updates from police, who had confirmed they knew the identity of a suspect but had not taken further action at that time.

The case attracted attention among Hua Hin residents and record collectors, with several people providing information to support the investigation.

Police later detained the accused for questioning, according to updates shared in a local Facebook group. Officers examined her mobile phone and allegedly found messages showing attempts to sell parts of the collection.

Investigators said the accused had allegedly told potential buyers that the Swiss couple had authorised the sales and that she was acting as their agent. Police also found photographs of the collection taken inside the victim’s home and shared with prospective buyers.

The accused remains in police custody. Authorities have not yet announced details of any formal charges or potential penalties.

Police are now working to identify buyers and recover the missing records and CDs. Kalt has urged anyone who may have purchased items from the collection to contact authorities to assist with their return.

kind of caught redhanded trying to sell the albums and CD online

A little off topic but related to record collections.
I met a guy in the U.S. of A. many years ago that was a disc jockey a radio station. He had a collection of over 3000 records on four shelves about 10 foot wide ( approximately).

You could tell him the name of a song, band, music artist, what ever and he would stand back from his record collection and look at it for a few seconds, then pull one record out of his collection on the shelves, and it would have the song, the band, or the music artist you named.

There were no labels of any kind that could be seen.

1,400 units in total — 1,000 vinyls and 400 CDs – for 12.5 million baht value, makes each unit worth almost 9,000 baht in average! Must be an extremely rare collection...
Sh*t happens: I probably shouldn't have given away my 1,000+ vinyl collection — including some rare items — before I left for Thailand...

But 'always look on the bright side of life': I still got around 400 CDs here — foreign originals, not from the local night-marked... — wow, I might be a triple baht-millionaire...

according to the article she was hurting financially, no way was she a music lover

Not the sharpest tool in the box, is she? I mean posting pics and flogging them on her own Line account… She might as well have organised a car boot sale in the guy's own back yard…

What are CDs, Grandpa?

I'm bigly in favour of digitising, tagging and categorising all music. I have several thousand albums curated by genre. Too big to back up but I'm old so it probably won't matter!

Good luck with recouping ether any cash or the records. I would be gutted, not for the loss of any revenue but the collection.

Nothing beats Spotify in terms of convenience for a music lover. That said, the sound isn't as 'warm' and it is pleasant to have a nice, physical object. I'm considering getting a turntable to play a few chosen albums, a special collection which I could add to over time.
