By your way of thinking, what would prevent me from flying to the UK, rob a few places, then turn myself in to be deported?

Stop being silly. You couldn't rob a piggy bank. Please.

Or, how about if a few angry terrorists visit, butcher some innocents and then self-deport back to their countries?

That's the Russian way, isn't it? Canterbury? Novachok? Quick in-out. Sorted.

Doesn't sound like he's "foreign" but a right & proper Brit.

If he is British, I’m not sure that he could be deported.

Deported to where, Nick??? I see no reportage of any foreign country.

Correct. No mention of which foreign country. However there is mention that he will be deported. Therefore he is not British. Could conceivably be any other country, although his surname gives some superficial pointers toward South Asia

Back when I was a boy growing up in London, born in 1933. Father off in the Royal Navy. My mother used to warn me. " If you don't behave yourself and carry on like this, you will get the birch and end up in Borstal." What we kids did was just mischief, but that warning was enough to make me think twice about what I got up to. Perhaps the birch should be reintroduced for some serious crimes. Once tasted, never forgotten, I suspect. Better punishment than playing games and weight training in prison.

With the UK taxpayer housing and feeding this slug for at least 18 more years, why not just deport him now?

There's probably a law about serving time where the crime was prosecuted? If there's any law that should be repealed by any political party, it's certainly this obligation to extend 'welfare' to convicted foreign criminals.

There are agreements between some countries where the prisoner can be sent back to his home country to serve out his sentence.

The racists on AN immediately jump to the conclusion he's a "foreigner" because, oh no, Brits wouldn't commit such a heinous crime.

More questions than answers. What's the deal with the suitcase? And why would her refusing get her kidnapped at home? What about Singh's accomplices? Why weren't they charged?

It would have been good if she could have also contacted the Thai police to try to find Singh's partners in crime in Bangkok.

Troll post removed.

@JMonroe rule 10. You will not post troll messages. Trolling is the act of purposefully antagonizing forum members by posting controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages with the primary intent of provoking other members into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

Nah, that's nonsense. The sender would just pick another mark. My guess is that more people refuse than agree.

You don't just hang about at an airport check in with a suitcase full of drugs and play lucky dip at finding a willing mule.

At least that's not the way I used to do it.

He gave a 'no comment' interview thinking he was a criminal mastermind, only to get absolutely destroyed by a one-in-a-million DNA match. Brilliant work by the forensics team.🧬📉

And clear thinking from the victim's mother !

34 Years is no where near enough. Never mind though his new inmate friends will no doubt sort him out

The most common scenario in these circumstances is that the suitcase contains drugs. If so, refusing would get her kidnapped because Singh was enraged that he hadn't got the drugs (and therefore the presumably significant financial gain) he had been hoping for.

She possibly took the free holiday and then bottled it at the last minute 🤔 plainly gang related.

Also hope the convicted slug will get 'proper counseling' in prison.

Yep testicles removed and then hung. 👍

If he wasn't a foreigner then they can't deport him...guess what he's a foreigner...
