Anyone who has a degree, a TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certificate, and a Non-B visa would be a fool to even consider it. Which means that the person they finally hire probably is working illegally

...or they're Thai which is, probably, the nationality that they're looking for.

One other thing not mentioned is that even a temp must have a permit to work in Thailand. That, I am sure, costs more than 5500

If it is a couple of hours a day, then it might ot be a good gig for a retired person to pop in, teach for a few minutes, then go about their retired lives. If that was the case, hell, if it was closer, it might be something I would be interested in just to get out and about.

It would be a good gig for a retired person who speaks English as their first language to pop in, teach for a few minutes...

But TiT, "age discrimination"

Public schools as a matter of policy don't hire old people. I doubt Private schools do either. ⁉️

No.

I've no idea what the official government fee is for work permits but, by doing some simple checking, it does appear that you are way off. As always, I stand to be corrected with accurate information and the source.

Mine renewed a few months ago.

Thats what it cost, I doubt it has increased by any significant amount.

Ford / Toyota/ Izuzu/ Mitusbishi/ Triumph/ Ducati most certainly do.

Infact I would reckon all companies in Thailand that have an offshore parent company do too!

I didn't say that but from what's in the news all the time not too many employers are paying the right salary and people have to work for more hrs than what they get paid . Than we have the Real bad ones where one has to pay up Millions of Thb just to get a Job/promotion .

Don't start crap.you know better.

I know some Thai girls who won't get into bed for less than 5,000Baht!

And some wonder why English proficiency is poor in Thailand. My stepdaughter was once given an assignment by her 'English' teacher. It was 10 jumbled up sentences she was to put in the correct English order. When I saw her paper that she was pretty proud of 9 of the 10 were marked as correct. By my review, only 1 was correct the other 9 wrong. Criticize the teacher and get sued, thanks but no thanks.

Some won't get in.

Isn’t the legal minimum wage 15000 a month for anyone who holds a university degree?

never worked in school i suppose

Last school I was in teacher had to be in school 7 am to 17.00 and even on Saturday and Sunday, for meetings, preparing for celebrations, camps etc etc.. which was in fact every Saturday and 2 Sundays in a month

I had an old fiend from Sydney primary and high school. Anyway I caught up with him in Thailand Teaching English in 2013. and had been in Thailand for about 20 years teaching. About 6-7 years ago I heard he died from a heart attack and had a Thai wife. Now I know why he had an early demise. May he RIP.

In the pre-Covid period, I knew a few english and american young teachers who gave english language lessons at various schools in Mueang Surin. At that time they had a salary of 20,000 - 25,000 Baht at the month, but not a permanent position, only for one year. They were then employed again for another year if necessary.

The 5000 Baht mentioned here is simply ridiculous.

Rumour has it that there are some who will get into bed for B5000...

There's no suggestion that they're looking to fill the position with a non-Thai.

For that salary they're obviously looking to employ a Thai to teach 'Ingrish".

Don't know if this is relevant, but :-

I've known 2 English expats with NO official qualifications work at our Amphur Govt. School as English Helpers.

About 4 hours a day depending on schedules, sitting in the back of the class room and correcting the teacher! They did not have any Thai comprehension?

20K / Month. Not paid through holiday periods.

5500 Baht is misprint or they're looking for some potless Filippino.

This is a joke... even if you earned the basic wage outside of Bangkok at 300 baht a day, then you would be getting 9k baht a month at a 7-11. Also, they want the applicant to have a degree in English (obviously language and not literature)... a complete insult offer really.

If you were Thai and have a degree in English language, then you just go to a city and earn 3-5 times or more than that realistically as a Thai, depending on the place. What they are offering is ludicrous really. This offer deserves the ridicule it has attracted.

No, there is no such mandated minimum salary.

The people in power benefit from an uneducated rural populace. This just dispells any illusions to the contrary. And why would English be a priority in a rural area? I'd put my limited resources into STEM or some other subject that was useful outside of the tourist areas.

5500THB, humor. End up with non-native speakers teaching.

Well, the Thai teachers at the school I was working at back in the early 2000s got only 8000 Baht. Then a few years later their salary was raised to 15K a month because the government established a new benchmark of 25K/month for entry-level bachelor's degree holders. However, entry-level salaries generally range from THB 15,000 to THB 30,000 depending on the industry, university prestige, and specific skill set, which makes the minimum salary effectively 15K/month...
