A Green-led London council is preparing for a high-profile clash with the Home Office by voting on plans to end cooperation with immigration enforcement operations, setting the stage for a wider political battle over migration policy across the capital.

Lewisham councillors will decide next week whether to review council systems, data-sharing arrangements and contracts with the aim of preventing officials from assisting immigration raids targeting people without the right to remain in the UK.

The proposal follows the discovery of a 2023 Home Office email asking Lewisham officials to help with "joint operational visits". I welcome this tolerance and dignity for immigrants, legal or illegal. The last thing Britain needs is a brutalist ICE system.

Which it will need if it accepts what you want!

Sure nobody wants a ICE type system. But in being lax with immigration, asylum seekers and other illegals, things go out of hand - no secret. Then it becomes necessary if not urgent to go to the other extreme, to get back in control. That's the problem with democracy and the current policies of the wokes leftist environmentalists labour etc etc...

What do you assume I want, Scottie? What I want is some humanity, compassion and sincerity for immigrants. Are there too many immigrants? I defer to the UK govt to figure that out?

There are two views as to their presence. The first is that they will provide a valuable work force in an aging population. The second is that those jobs will go to immigrants not native (read White) Brits. An awful lot of those PoC are born in the UK and already Brits.
