Israeli Strike Kills Seven at Gaza Funeral

Featured Replies

An Israeli strike on a funeral in the Gaza Strip has killed at least seven people and injured another 22, according to Al-Awda hospital, a local medical facility.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.

Al-Awda hospital in the Nuseirat refugee camp said the strike hit the funeral of a Palestinian who had been killed in another Israeli attack earlier on Friday. The hospital confirmed the number of casualties, including at least seven deaths and 22 people injured.

Ceasefire in place since October

Israel and the Hamas militant group agreed to a ceasefire deal in October intended to halt their two-year-long war. The heaviest fighting has since subsided, but Gaza’s health ministry said at least 1,123 people have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire took effect.

The ministry says it keeps detailed records of casualties, which UN agencies and independent experts describe as generally reliable. An independent UN inquiry has also found that Israel continues to commit genocide by deliberately targeting Palestinian children in Gaza.

Ongoing attacks and deaths on both sides

Militants have carried out shooting attacks on troops, and Israel said its strikes were carried out in response to such attacks and other violations.

Israel’s campaign has continued under the ceasefire framework, with five Israeli soldiers killed since it began, according to the account cited in the reporting.

Background to the war

The war began after the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023. In that attack, about 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage, according to the figures referenced in the report.

Israel’s offensive in Gaza has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians, including those killed since the ceasefire took effect, Gaza’s health ministry said.

What nonsense. I don't believe for 1 second that Israel simply targeted a funeral because it had nothing else to do.

The muslim propaganda machine at work as usual.

I don't believe for 1 second that Palestinians blew themselves up just to make Israel look bad because they had nothing else to do.

Murderers are expanding their repertoire. They already checked funerals off their list. How can anyone with brain or heart support Israel?

Go ahead Bibi, continue to make your nation into one of the great pariah states of the planet. Continue to practice genocide and prove to all of us that every single lesson from the Holocaust has been forgotten.

Israel is a god forsaken and forlorn place and no longer deserves the respect nor the support of the world community. If they keep this up they may cease to exist within a couple of decades.

You've never even been there with these idiotic comments .

Israelis used to have a pretty decent falafel stand in the East village, but their food truck is too expensive and the quality has gone downhill. 😄

Another day, another Israeli atrocity and another line of apologists eagerly defending it.

Going downhill is a pretty appropriate metaphor for everything related to Israel.

It's time for all Western countries to review their relation with this murder-state.

Cut off the ties and supports (money, weapons) and let them try to survive by themselves. If they can't = bad Karma

That sums it up very well.

An inflammatory post has been removed, we don't need comments like that on here Mr @Packer

It was a funeral after all, might as well increase the numbers of dead.

Because the existence of a Jewish-majority homeland with a strong military force is the best guarantee for the survival of the Jewish people and the best defense against those who seek to eliminate Jews and Judaism. Israel is also the best counterweight to the radical expansionist state Islamism of Iran and groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.

If a state can only defend it's territory by murdering the neighbors, then the right of existence is at least questionable.

A co-existance with different ethnicity is highly recommended, along with respecting borders.

Any country that is capable of doing so will defend its borders and citizens by any means necessary. You are simply calling military action "murder." In your thought world, is all military action by any country "murder?"

Israel is both willing and able to co-exist with its neighbors. Israel has had formally recognized and respected borders with Egypt and Jordan since the 1979 Egypt–Israel peace treaty and the 1994 Israel–Jordan peace treaty, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borders_of_Israel

No military conflicts between Israel and these two countries have occurred since the treaties were signed and formal international borders were established. Lebanon and Syria have failed to sign similar treaties with Israel and conflicts continue.

That's not funny, Goodie.

Has "Jewish humour" become as creepy as that?

None of this was necessary. It would only take an acceptance of both sides to exist separately but it will never happen. Hamas are hell bent on the elimination of Israel. While that mentality exists Israel has no option but to retaliate to protect its own people. You have to remember this start when Hamas murdered over a 1,000 innocent people. No country is going to sit back as accept that.

Nonsense🤡 . Israel takes land ILLEGALLY since decades. Don't complain, when some will fight back.

Jews should be happy having been granted a place to live. Unfortunately it was obviously not requested to have a decent, peaceful life, but murderous with vengeance and cruelties. Seems just to pay back what Antisemites did to them.

Your post is a simple-minded analysis of a conflict that began long before October 7th 2023.

The mass immigration of European Jews to Palestine is what started it

Before that, the Old Yishuv, Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews had coexisted in small numbers with Christians and Arabs for centuries.

Ev, I think you know this to be wrong as much as you wish to support Israel. Better to support the Israelis than their govt.

When you talk about a radical expansionist state, are you talking about the West Bank, two-thirds of Gaza or Southern Lebanon. None of these places are Israel's to just take!

Israel has become a hypermilitarised society. That delusional nationalism and universal conscription has resulted in several generations who have participated in the IDF's murders. I can't see any way out of that except generation after generation with no violence.

If Israel needs violence to survive and a US trust fund and donations of the newest weapons, I hate to say it, but Israel does not deserve to survive. Dunno, maybe Palestine was a bad choice.

I'll work on your other two replies. Yes, war is murder.

Diplomacy works. So why doesn't Israel do whatever necessary to make peace with its other neighbours. You know, if somebody doesn't like me, even hates me and everything I stand for, I take considerable time to chip away at those defenses. Israel only responds withj destruction not diplomacy.

Israel could make a decision to chip away the defences of both Hamas and Hezbollah. They are quoted as "Death to Israel". Perhaps Israelis don't say it as loudly but the implication is clearly "Death to Arabs.

Sorry, but Israel could have been so great in HaShoMer forewent violence in 1909 and Jews decided this was the route to peace.

Yes and would have continued had Hamas not been voted into power in what is now called Palestine.
