Bangkok Bank “Wealth” relationship tier

Featured Replies

I see that Bangkok Bank has a “wealth” relationship tier for customers with more than 3 million baht on deposit.

Are foreigners eligible for this, and if so, have any “wealth” tier foreign account holders had their accounts frozen or closed?

Most of the banks have tiers like this. They are certainly open to foreigners. In fact, the amount does not even need to be in a deposit account, only that your entire assets under management (AUM) reach the required sum. For example, you might hold shares or mutual funds through them and hold almost no money on deposit.

I am sure that occasionally foreigner accounts of this sort have been frozen or closed. Generally though, banks will go the extra step to try to keep you as a customer. You will probably be assigned a relationship manager whose job is to sort out any problems and this will at least make it simpler to handle any issues. I suppose it depends why you are worried your account might be frozen. Are you an arms smuggler or a politically engaged person?

I recommend you look around at other banks before deciding. Each bank offers its own distinct perks that you might prefer over other options; ask yourself what you would like to benefit from.

Don't forget that in Thailand there are foreign banks who might offer more of what you want. Or perhaps, you might prefer to open your account offshore away from the taxman. Malaysia and Singapore are options if you have the bare minimum to open a wealth account.

Lots of things to think about.

I opened an account with BBL when i had a work permit, and now I am on a DTV so I am worried they will close my account.

I believe it is 7m, not 3m (but it could have changed since I obtained my BBL Gold card (which gave certain privileges, and still does, although the "Wealth Management' title has come about late last year. It is not the nationality, it is having the required amount of funds with Bangkok bank (as someone pointed out earlier).

Hope that helps.

Wealth relationship tier 3m baht, lol
