Spain claimed their second World Cup title with a 1-0 win over Argentina in a tight final decided in the second half of extra time.

After 120 minutes of tension, Ferran Torres scored in the 106th minute to break a prolonged stalemate and give Spain the trophy. Argentina pressed for an equaliser late on but could not find the net, with Lionel Messi on the losing side.

Torres’ goal ends the deadlock

Torres provided the decisive moment after Spain had dominated the contest for long spells. He finished a chance after receiving a pass from Nico Williams, converting to send Spain ahead in extra time.

The goal came after neither team had managed to find a breakthrough through normal time and the earlier stages of extra time, leaving the match finely poised until Torres struck.

Spain defend after taking the lead

Argentina stepped up their attacking play as the closing stages approached, seeking a leveller to keep the game alive. Spain, who had controlled much of the match, responded by absorbing pressure and maintaining their shape.

Despite sustained efforts in the latter part of the match, Argentina were unable to break through, and Spain held on to secure the win.

First World Cup final halftime show

The final also featured what organisers described as the first World Cup final halftime show, bringing a lineup of international stars on to the pitch.

Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber, Shakira and other performers appeared during the interval, creating a highly visible spectacle amid the build-up to a closely fought match.

Trump attends; trophy handover expected

The American president, Donald Trump, was present at the final along with other world leaders. It is anticipated that Trump will help hand over the trophy to the winning team after Spain’s victory.

Yes RayC the Argies used the black arts in every game to bully teams and they tried it in the final against Spain but the Spanish didn't fall the dirty tricks, and at the final whistle some of the Argie players brought disgrace to the game by punching Spanish players.

The best team won despite all the drama from the Argies even after the semi finals against England - surrounded the ref but respect to him he didn't give a <deleted>, followed the beautiful games rules

Now let's see what the Argies get fined for after the flag thing after beating England & the punch-up after the final

That was to wind up the English players Geoff984. The Argie rugby team wore replica Football 86 shirts Marradona wore, not even Rugby shirts plus they played on the outkirts of Argentina where hardly any fans could support England. First try against the Argies within a minute fists were flying from them. Like there football team just wanted to play dirty but they got beat.

Rather than making a statement, I do think that the Argentinians were watching proceedings on the large screen behind the goal , as their view would have been obstructed if watched live

Argentina has a history of bad behavior?

Maybe they should try to fix their economy instead of worrying about their soccer scores?

France would have beaten Spain and won the world cup if their white right back hadn't lost his head. That was their Achilles heel. That white player typically lacked character. No spine.

Well whilst that might have been the reason are you telling me that the losing team would not be entitled to take a prominent position in front of the assembled VIPs rather than behind them? Surely the losing team should be in front of the assembled entourage. Having any sort of decorum just doesn't seem to be part of Argentinian behaviour.

You can see from the photo that the media were on the touchline and the podium was in the canter circle .

Argentina players would have gotton in the way had they stood Infront of the Spain players .

The Argentine players were watching on the big screen , rather than viewing from the side on the pitch

You do realise that there was a large screen at the other end of the stadium. They could have watched on that and no need to turn there backs to the ceremony. There was a more or less empty space to the side where they could have watched and not got in the way of the press and tv.

They have a screen at either end of the pitch because one screen would be too far to see from the other end of the pitch .

Also, the Argentines were at the end of their supporters .

I don't dispute why they were at that end. There was still the nearly empty space to the right had side.
