Maybe in the lead now but they lost the space race and have always been second place to them Darned Russians. As for Soyuz there old out of date Rockets are still sending men and woman to the ISS and bringing them safely home how many American Astronaut's have they lost on Shuttle Missions marin ?

They have not been second place since 1969 when we landed on the moon. They have no heavy boosters, no reuseable boosters and Soyuz is still flying yes, it did fill a gap yes, but it is so cramped and crowded compared to Crew Dragon. Always been second class is a joke.

So you really believe that? Sincere question with regards to how far technology has come compared to the 1960's when the soyuz was developed.

Its a 1967 BMW vs a brand new one. It does not drive on the autobahn but into deep space.

Space X has more than 500 missions with the reusable Crew Dragon. Building Star Link and Star Shield along with 100's of international satellites. One booster itself has flown 36 times.

Russia has yet to fly 1.

Not only was I a space systems engineer (antennas and RF systems for ESA projects), space projects are also my hobby for many years, and I teach astronomy courses to young students several days each week.

It's great to get youngsters involved in space activities, but for regular involvement like this I must turn to Russian cubesat programmes, where youngsters of all countries are encouraged to build equipment to receive satellite signals, including images of their own drawings. I have a close involvement with the Russian Sputnix and Space-Pi organisations for these projects, but from the USA? Few and far between and only involving countries whose political leaning meets the approval of the USA.

Here's a certificate from the Russian UMKA-1 satellite for the first ever drawing from a Burmese student that was transmitted from space by a young student of mine :)

I feel the same way about a lot of our politicians.

I remember watching it live on the BBC, black and white, but who cares? it was the moon!

it was quite a feeling going outside at night during the time they were on the moon, gazing upwards and thinking there are two men walking about up there.

I wonder if all the naysayers who doubt the moon landing actually watched it live during the event. It's easy to doubt when we have modern AI and CGI video aids nowadays.... or perhaps you think the Earth is flat also?

As I have posted elsewhere that both Russia and China, especially Russia, given the "Space Race", at the time would have cried foul if it was fake.

The USA & Russian leaders were not exactly buddies back then!

Your not grasping it marin. Yes The US has the best Technology now but at a cost in human lives. Russia is still capable of sending up older Tech and its reliable.

I am grasping and you are fighting reality. We lost two space shuttles with 14 crew members. Russia has lost 2 soyuz capsules with 4 deaths. The US no longer flies the shuttle. There has not been a problem at all with Crew Dragon. Even Russia admits their technology is outdated. Ask any person who has flown on both capsules which is safet and technologically better. The answer is Crew Dragon. The Soyuz is reliable I will give you that as the Chinese copied and improved on it for their spacecraft.

Meanwhile, as Al Murray has pointed out, poor Michael Collins went all the way to the moon, but wasn't allowed to land on it. He just went around and around and around it while the others got the glory.

However, it did give him the chance to do something unique when taking this picture. He was the only human being ever, alive or dead, not included in it.
