Socialism/communism. The new dog whistle for the MAGA masses, the people with 6 teeth who fight so hard for the people with 6 yachts.

Do you believe that socialism and communism ultimately lead to economic failure?

How scary is a democratic socialist candidate? Apparently not as scary as a MAGA one

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/07/20/politics/democratic-socialist-candidates-polling

The rise of democratic socialists in recent House primaries is certainly posing problems for the Democratic Party. But as Republicans seek to make this a central issue in the 2026 midterm elections, new data indicates it might not be as big a liability for Democrats as one might think.

A case in point: A new poll suggests that a democratic socialist candidate is actually less of a liability than being a MAGA supporter or being endorsed by President Donald Trump.

The new CNBC poll got at this question in an interesting way. It asked registered voters whether they would be more or less likely to vote for candidates with various associations. While 50% of voters said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate who describes themselves as a democratic socialist, just 32% said they would be more likely. That’s not too good.

Then we get to the “but.”

The numbers were slightly worse for a generic candidate endorsed by Trump. Registered voters said they were less likely to support that candidate, 52%-29%.

And the numbers were significantly worse for a candidate who described themselves as a supporter of the MAGA movement. In that case, the margin was 57%-27%.

Perhaps even more important than those overall numbers, the Trump-endorsed and MAGA options also engendered more passionate opposition than a democratic socialist did. (That doesn’t bode well for the GOP’s strategy since the idea is generally to scare would-be voters away from democratic socialist candidates.) So, while 42% said they were “much less likely” to back a democratic socialist, that number was 46% for a Trump-endorsed candidate and 50% for a MAGA candidate.

In your own words, can you define Democratic socialism?

A better places than ??? Communist or socialist countries, yes, I agree.

And ... I'm not surprised at all, thanks and simply proves my point. Don't think anyone stated social programs don't work in a capitalist economy. Every country has them.

... "AI Overview

Yes, Sweden has a capitalist economy." ...

My niece married a banker in Sweden, definitely a capitalist country, as I've seen myself when visiting. Here's a kicker for, you moved to the USA, and still there, 'Loving it'

I don't think anyone in the US wants a pure socialist country. That's only the tight wing hype to get their clueless cult members excited.

Easy. Look at Sweden, Norway etc as examples

You did not define the term. Norway and Sweden have free-market economies. Sweden experimented with socialism from the 1970s to the 1990s and subsequently rolled it back.

This response reflects a leftist mindset that struggles with opposing views.

That's what happens when they got nothing, they offer nothing.

You wrote that nicely. "Opposing views" have nothing to do with facts. Or maybe you meant "alternative facts?"

Social democracy aims to reform capitalism to make it fairer through extensive regulations and strong welfare programs, such as those in Nordic countries.

There are no pure "democratic socialist" countries today that have completely replaced capitalism. Instead, people often use this term to describe social democracies—capitalist nations with free markets and strong public welfare programs.

Taking USA for an example, a capitalist country w/ social programs. Look at this vid to see what some of the social programs include, and puts the 11% poor, down to 1%.

Without capitalism, they wouldn't have the taxes to fund social programs.

Mind boggling how data is presented by MSM for the left's socialism push. Take a peek at this. Start @ 3:35 of vid ...

The MAGA crowd are pushing for a renewal of McCarthyism V2.0. Given that predatory capitalism has destroyed the American Dream for America's youth, get ready for Democratic Socialists whom the MAGA crowd will call "Commies." The US is about the change. Go Zoomers!

What an idiot Kennedy is. A mother and 3 kids. He thinks it's just a mother.

Yes, USA under the current administration is very famous for it's (so called) social programs with strong public welfare programs...

Well ok, they can't do it like the "communist countries in Europe". Bombing Iran is more important than things like Obamacare or fixing infrastructure problems.

Really understandable - USA is the hottest country since the 47th took over...

Well, the Democratic Socialists have taken over New York City and cities like Seattle, Portland including San Francisco. So it seems the good-ol-USA is headed for the likes of the UK. Of course the good patriotic citizens of the U.S. still have the ability to stop these left wing, give me free stuff, wackos. I am afraid that President Trump is one of the last of the great Presidents who stand up for capitalism and the rule of law. Word salad Kamala is standing in the wings just waiting for her opportunity to really put the knife in America's heart.

Corrigenda:

Yes, he is a great president who stands up (for capitalism - into his pockets) and the rule of law (suitable for him and his oligarchs only).

Here you go...

What aspects of capitalism are considered "unfair"?

When you bring facts to the discussion, we can have a meaningful conversation.
