My question was am I saving money by sending my funds through wise or sending them direct to my scb savings account .? So which one is best.?

I have attempted to take the opportunity of things being quiet on the exchange rate front over the weekend to answer these questions (subject, of course, to the various caveats mentioned by others in this thread). According to my calculations, a SWIFT transfer of £10,000 will, at present, yield ฿442,424 net, whereas a Wise transfer of the same amount will yield ฿446,058 net, as stated on their website.

And Wise's superiority over SWIFT extends to higher transfer amounts (up to £20,000 at least), thus confirming @treetops ' assertion that, in general for GBP, Wise will always be cheaper.

I guess another question at the heart of Wise's migration to a Thai bank is: Will Wise (and all Thai banks) be required to use only the BOT official exchange rates for incoming transfers? Is it possib

  • Maybe this is a naïve question, but if one is sending money from UK to Thailand, wouldn't one use a UK-registered account anyway? So do these changes only affect people sending money from Thailand to

But won't there be a charge from UK bank to send to wise as wise is no longer a local transfer? Or am I reading it wrong?

No. of course not! Wise isn't moving to Thailand. It's setting up a locally registered subsidiary to handle the payments and receipts here.

Transfers from the UK will still be handled in the usual way from their London offices.

Well yes, I get your point, but what I saw when I sent 10 GBP to my multi currency account was 448.98 THB. Go figure.

However, let's not get carried away over this. I've been wondering whether this was actually a 'notional' amount, rather than a conversion. Because until I initiate a transfer, my money is still in the UK and therefor it is still sterling isn't it.

And to prove that point, I've just sent it back to my UK bank account. And what I received was 10 GBP and my Wise account is now empty again.

Correct. All we're now waiting for is what documents are required to forward to Wise.

I think we'd best steer clear of the document thing! We've done that one to death already. 🙂
