thats what you always say with confronted with the undeniably trollish nature of your life

President Lula does what everyone should be doing - giving trump the finger. The US were set to send officials down to Brazil to meddle in their elections but their visas got denied.thumbsup

"Brazil's Foreign Ministry said on Saturday it denied visas to two U.S. State Department officials who sought to travel to the South American nation next week, in the latest political barb between the two countries.

The move became public after The Washington Post reported the Brazilian government saying the officials, Riley M. Barnes, an assistant secretary, and Samuel Samson, a deputy assistant, wanted to cast doubt on the upcoming October elections in Brazil.

A spokesperson for Brazil's foreign office said Barnes and Samson requested visas on July 20 and they were denied Friday. He did not disclose the reasons behind the decision."

Since neither the US or UK are friendly with Iran and the UK and US are friendly with each other I tend to think your thinking is not quite right!

Nothing wrong with my thinking at all. US has a trade surplus with the UK so why is US putting tariffs on Britain at all. The US IS NOT friendly to the UK, far from it, so why is the UK allowing US planes to use UK air basis. When countries act in an an unfriendly way the usual reaction is to them to eff off. Why on Earth the UK invited Trump on a state visit then the King reciprocated is beyond me. Please don't tell me Britain has representatives joining your 250 year bash.

Tariffs are a tax on the citizens of any country that imposes them.

They also mean the citizens of that country have reduced competition, and are forced into purchasing goods of lower quality, made by inefficient industries..

Then there is the cost of the bureaucracy needed to administer them.

IIRC the Smoot-Hawley tariffs of 1930 triggered the Great Depression.

The Great Depression began in 1929. Did the Smoot-Hawley Act have a magic time machine?

Seems in your desire to stick it to your perceived enemy, your actual enemy who are people making decisions for your country are the ones actually impacting your quality of life. It's never been trump. Your shortcomings though are evident in your posts

"My" shortcomings... pray, don't be shy and tell me more!

Because actually I think I know better than you how the illegal tariffs have impacted the company I am working for financially and how much this has disrupted trading, until we have taken radical steps to decouple from the constant (wholly unnecessary) up- and down the US trade policy is creating.

I personally know, as I am talking to many people in the industry, that Trump has broken a lot of porcelain; if he would at least stick with one idea and go through with it... but he is an agent for chaos, making trade with the USA as toxic as trade with Russia or Iran would be (well, they all are terror states, so they fit nicely in the same cupboard).

Surely that is a good thing. The US sells more to the UK than the US buys from the US. Yet the US increases tariffs on UK goods. If the UK now retaliates and increase tariffs on US goods it will have 2 affects. Those people who choose to by US over British or EU goods will be paying more in tax. That is good because then those people who choose not buy US will be paying less than the stupid people who buy US goods. The UK might be less reliant on the UK and produce more internally or but from a friendly country and not from an enemy. I am all for taxing goods from the US more.

So was the US in the early parts of the war. Henry Ford wouldn't supply arms to the British but the German Ford factory was churning out stuff for the Nazis. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_collaboration_with_Nazi_Germany
