For example, the US population is 349 million. It supplies over 50% of farm workers. Most.

OTOH, the illegal/undocumented population is about 13 million, supplying 40% of farm workers. A minority.

Those numbers tell me if America actually succeeded in deporting every illegal, it would have a huge labor problem. But with your limited thinking, you won't agree with that perspective.

Food delivery was a huge business during covid. Illegals killed the industry. They ruined it for all the Americans that counted on it to pay the bills. Still works to order grab in Thailand because hasn't been ruined by poor govt policy yet. It's not about importing the third world to keep your economy going it's about letting the free markets work and Obama & Co failed

Farm work is hard work, and not well paid. It's not about keeping the economy going, it's about getting people who will do the scut work Americans won't do.

What else would one expect in a country where the overweight/obesity level is 70%?

If it ever comes to all illegal farm workers being ousted from the US, the work will be done by Americans anyway. There are thousands of Hispanics that need jobs, and would surely work, especially if their pay matches minimum wage in the US, which it would have to seeing they're citizens. Unless the farm has less than 500 man days of labor in a quarter of the year before. Much farm work is done by machine harvest but there are the trees that need picking, along with crops where a machine wouldn't work.

Many years ago, I had a short stopover in Hawaii.

I booked a half day tour for that same day, and a full day tour of the island for the next day.

I had little previous contact with Americans in the UK. Suddenly that all changed when I found myself in the middle of small tour bus full of Americans. They all identified themselves by name, where they were from and what they did for work, etc. There was never a quiet moment amongst the constant dialogue and little chance to take in the tour.

When I got off the bus, I went back to the travel agent and refunded my full day tour for the next day. That first half day was more than enough.

I have since worked with many Americans, including in the USA. I have since found them to be friendly, knowledgeable/informed and always worth listening too. However, not sure that I would risk another bus tour like that one in Hawaii.

BTW, when I worked in the USA (Tennessee), I had one visit to the doctor’s surgery (for a genital wart). I still remember the receptionist asking why I needed to see the doctor (I lied), but most of all - had I made a will and what was my 'net worth' – I lied again. Do they still do that?

I found working in the USA was easy and positive/productive, with people focused on getting the job done – the ‘can do’ attitude. Like the opposite of the UK.

Too funny, and can imagine that just as described, as the Hawaiin holiday seemed to warrant 'bragging rights' back in it's hay day, in that 'income bracket', and considering the added expense, and beautiy of a true tropical, mountainous island, without leaving the USA, sort of makes sense. The ultimate 'look at me, I've made it' holiday.

Nice that you found all Yanks aren't that self centered. Sort of like if only tourist experience is NYC, you'd think all Yanks were like New Yorkers. And the USA was an expensive congested sh!thole.

Explains a lot of the mindset of some tourist & expats that only made it to Bangkok, Patts or Patong, Phuket. Not a good look if only hitting the tourist traps or bar scene.

once in the plane my neighbour was American, in 10 minutes i knew his whole story, how many cars he had and how much they costed him...

There are tourists that will go on tours with a lot of people, and there are those who go alone or in a small group, planning their destinations on their own time. Two different types of Americans.
