Trump Tells Americans to Recall Event That Never Happened

Featured Replies

President Donald Trump has again repeated a false claim about wind power, telling Americans to remember a nationwide television outage that never happened while criticising renewable energy during a speech at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Washington.

Trump repeats familiar wind power claim

Speaking on Thursday, Trump renewed his attacks on wind energy, which he has long criticised, and claimed people were unable to watch a presidential debate because "the wind wasn't blowing."

Referring to renewable energy policies, Trump said the country had been "scammed" by what he called the "Green New Scam." He then described a fictional scenario in which households could not watch a debate between himself and then-President Joe Biden because wind turbines had stopped generating electricity.

The anecdote has featured in Trump's speeches before, despite having no factual basis.

Electricity grids use a mix of power sources rather than relying solely on wind generation, allowing supply to continue even when wind speeds are low. Battery storage systems can also store surplus wind energy for use when production falls.

Debate attracted millions of viewers

Trump's story centred on his June 2024 debate with Biden. However, the debate was watched by tens of millions of Americans, with more than 51 million viewers tuning in on television alone, according to Nielsen estimates.

Many of those viewers were in Texas, the country's largest producer of wind-generated electricity. The Republican-led state remains the leading producer of wind power in the United States while also being the most populous state won by Trump in the 2024 election.

Although the Biden administration promoted renewable energy and set a goal of achieving 100% clean electricity by 2035, the Green New Deal never became law. The proposal, introduced by progressive Democrats as a non-binding congressional resolution, called for a decade-long transition to clean, renewable and zero-emission energy sources.

Federal data shows wind energy accounted for about 10% of US net electricity generation in 2024.

Additional disputed claims

Trump also repeated other claims that have been challenged.

He said California experiences "brownouts and blackouts every weekend," despite there being no evidence to support that assertion. A spokesperson for California Governor Gavin Newsom said the state has not experienced rolling blackouts for nearly six years and has not issued emergency Flex Alert conservation requests since 2022, citing investments in clean energy and battery storage.

The president also said the United States had attracted "$19.2 trillion" in investment during his first 12 months back in office and complained he received "no credit" for it.

However, no evidence has been provided to support that figure, and the total investment received during the current presidential term falls well short of the amount Trump cited.

FACT CHECK: True!

Many J6 MAGA Americans are addicted to blithering nonsense blowing out of Trump's loudmouth and they were unable to listen due to being in jail for child molesting and other crimes and the jailors turned the sound down on the TV just to annoy their racist asses. 😎

You would think with all the backers he has available to him, that, before he spoke on anything in public, they would help guide what he has to say. This is one large reason many see him in a negative way. Not thinking before speaking. That's part of the ego. What he says is more important than anyone he's talking to, and if he would use the help he has, what he eventually says would not only make more sense, but might help others.

The wind probably stopped blowing because of all the hot air coming out of Trump's mouth.

There is no belief, however foolish, that will not gather its faithful adherents (in the MAGA cult).

Why is American media so patient with Trump? Instead of using the word "liar" they say there is no evidence. He is clearly lying to the people on purpose so the media should call it out.

Too many lies and they start to be believed.

Unfortunately significant portion of USA population have been kept in a bubble and therefore are ignorant of realities around the world. This allows leaders to claim untruths. Alternative media is slowly bursting the bubble allowing the population to gain awareness. For example, support for isreal has declined due to youngsters watching less of the legacy media.

Your claim is based on what, exactly? Clearly you are a Trump supporter prone, like him, to making false and unsubstantiated claims. He would be proud of you.

Trump is a "Very Stable Genius." Take for example:

During a private 2017 tour of the USS Arizona Memorial, Trump reportedly turned to his then-chief of staff John Kelly and asked, "Hey, John, what's this all about? What's this a tour of?"

(According to the book A Very Stable Genius by Washington Post reporters Philip Rucker and Carol Leonnig)

This does shows that this president has the greatest memory of all time in history. If you can remember things that did not happen you are the genius. But we already knew that of course.

Remember the old adage of, ''How do you know a pol is lying? - because their mouth is open.''?

Trump is the only one I have ever known to embody that slogan totally and 100%.

Can anyone state a time when he has opened his oral brain drain without lying at least once, and egregiously so?

Is not the main body of every speech a whipped up compilation of downright lies?

It is stunning to behold. And what is even more stunning is that all this was known. His sex offending and misogyny, his racism, his fraud, his contempt for decent people, his hatred of the constitution, his corruption, his amorality, his hatreds and seething resentments, and his lies, lies, lies. All well known and publicized before 77m, in figures seventy seven MILLION, Americans voted for him and his pals as 'President', with his dog eating Haitians and all.

And that is what we in the still free world, from heads of state huddling without phones in Brussels, to the people I know at grass roots level, the former friends and allies of a once potentially venerable US, have finally clocked. We see the likes of Miller, Vance, Musk, Zuckerberg, and flunkies like Johnson and the spineless 'GOP', the supine media, the ICE militia, and the 77 million supporters, and we know the US has completely and utterly lost its moral compass and its mind since 2001, is drifting even further away, and can no longer be trusted any more than China and Russia.

The rest have sadly proven powerless to do anything about it and even Democrats still regard something as basic as universal health care as 'communist'.

Never one man succeeded to frustrate so many relations in such a short time. For this the USA will have the negative consequences for over a generation.

ABsolutely. It will take several terms of pressies of Obama's stature to begin to ameliorate the damage the 77 million and Project 2025 with their oligarch backers have committed. Who could possibly trust the Putinised US again? Checks and balances? Don't make me laugh.

After 250 years it's time for a total overhaul and reformation. And that is indeed a generational task.

Problem is that, like in the UK which is in a similarly defunct state, no one is even talking about it.
