Retirement Extension in old passport.

Featured Replies

Hi, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am returning to Thailand next month with my old ( now cancelled ) UK passport which contains my Retirement extension until Jan 2027 and re-entry stamps. Also have my brand new freshly issued UK passport. Anyone done this before or experienced any issues with gaining entry at Savarnabhumi immigration with the Retirement extension in the old passport ? Thanks

Bring both with you. This is AI and valid........When entering Thailand, you must present both your new passport and your old passport (which contains the valid retirement visa/extension stamp), along with a valid re-entry permit if required. The immigration officer will inspect both documents to link your active status and place your new arrival stamp into your new passport.

Required Documents at Airport Immigration

  • New Passport: Your current, valid travel document used for entry.

  • Old Passport: The canceled or expired passport holding the valid retirement extension sticker or visa.

  • Re-Entry Permit: Either stamped in your old passport (obtained before leaving Thailand) or processed on the spot if available, though leaving with a pre-arranged re-entry permit is standard protocol.

  • Next Steps After Arrival

    • Local Immigration Office: Visit your local Immigration Bureau office soon after arrival to formally transfer your visa history and stamps from the old passport into the new one

No problem.

You will need to present both old + new pp to airline for boarding pass and immigration in Thailand.

Which immigration office do you deal with.

While there is no urgency to attend immigration office to transfer stamps and visa info, it's good idea to do that.

Don't forget to update your new pp # etc with your Thai bank.

Personally I don't worry about updating details on TDL.

If you use banking app you should update with telco.

Provide both passports at UK departures desk.
Provide both passports at Immigration arrivals.

Entry stamp will be stamped in new passport.

Thereafter go to your local IO to have stamps transferred to new passport.
