Very tragic once again. When will the UK government ban it's own to travel without proper travel health or accident insurance ? Because at this rate of all the gofundme's for the brits, at one point

Well that's the damage to the motorcycle covered then. Someone has to pay for that.

Your point was pointless if you had to explain it.

He planned his life here in Thailand. His place would be here, not in UK.

Give the money to his Thai wife to be instead

He didn't have a Thai wife.

Maybe. Helmets reduce deaths by about 40%. But if he was in a car with his seat belts fastened, it's about 100%

Tragic data point. My condolences to his loved ones.

Interesting stats? Souce?

why the need for a Go Fund me page? The money must be there

Whose money... must be where? As he's deceased,. any assets he had will not be available until probate is granted.

I think the point here is he recieved inadequate medical care and probably died from bleeding on the brain

No, that is not the point, that is nothing more than an unfounded allegation by the family.

BTW was he wearing a helmet? anyone know?

What's the relevance of knowing that?

I am just a Yank from litigious USoA but if someone there were to say:

Relatives have described the standard of medical care he received as "inadequate".

It would imply they are considering legal action. But this is Thailand. Whole 'nother ball game.

I would literally have died twice already, without mine

Really? How do you know that, "literally"? How badly injured were you?

Did crowdfunding facilities exist at that time? I suspect not but if it had done exactly the same thing would have been happening despite what you were taught.

To be fair LL, his post did clearly state 'Thai wife to be'.

The rest of his post is his usual anti Brit baiting however.

Should every Thai island have gleaming medical facilities with MRI scanners poised to use as well as operating theatres?

No and I didn't suggest that. That would of course be impracticle. But the doctors (in both cases - the Brit and the Thai with a massive heart attack), as the professional primary care givers, should have been a bit better in telling whether their patients were potentially in need of urgent care. My main point is a question about how often this happens (poor or no diagnoses or bad medical judgement). My own sense, for what it's worth, is it happens more often here than in most western countries, thus my remark that anyone 'coming' here specifically as "a medical tourist" for cheaper care should weigh that out carefully. Not referencing a young guy on holiday who rents a motorcycle.

There is far too much of this Just giving and GoFundMe on social media these days

Really? You make the decision about when crowdfunding should stop or when it is too much?

Well, the insurance would list definitely in the contract not to ride without a helmet and proper clothes

My insurance specifies only up to 150cc and have a UK motor cycle licence. Not sure is it specifies wearing a crash helmet. You still wouldn't get me on a motor bike in Thailand.

Why do these British always need to fundraise money? Don't they have travel insurance in the UK or own savings? What dream world are they living in?

Just bring the ashes back home should not cost that much!

I stand corrected by your good self also, thank you, I have already conceded my misreading of his post. doubtless further admonishments will be along shortly also!

Life saving decision 👍

Yeah, if it is a Brit or not has really no relevance here. First, it looks like the guy was driving without a helmet, which is plain stupidity! However, dying at 32 is very tragic and sad.

What I fail to understand, though. The guy was planning to marry a Thai woman. Euther bring her to live in the UK or live together in Thailand. That has also no relevance. What has, is that it seems like he was flying on fluffy clouds. All that he wanted to do, will cost some money. So, why the need for a Go Fund me page? The money must be there, or he was just another guy thinking that no planning needed, I am hopelessly in love, and I just do and sort the problem out later. I just don´t get things like this!

The money must be there,

Maybe HIS money, but not the family's money. Therefore begging now

5 hours ago, Scouse123 said:

Because some of us, no matter how poor we were growing up, were taught never to ask other people for money. Probably because we knew our friends and neighbours had their problems, and it just wasn't right to expect help from them or to burden them.

It was considered begging, and it carried a great deal of shame, even in working-class families.

It appears that values like self-respect and personal pride have faded for some people. Many now think it's perfectly acceptable to ask others for financial help, even complete strangers.

In this case, he either didn't arrange, or chose not to pay for, adequate travel insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances, such as accidents, or in this case death, and the repatriation of remains.

That responsibility shouldn't automatically fall on the public.

An entirely different example is the tragic death of Hlun Solo, the Thai vlogger who passed away in Georgia very recently.

His family have announced there are no requests for public donations and if the public see any, they are not from the family, and they ask that they be reported to the authorities. He had ample insurance for travelling.

Getting adequate travel insurance, and not asking others to help after a tragic event, is a pet hate of mine.

As you know we often disagree in many things.

But today I have to 💯.

My education was similar;

No begging, no asking others for money, if you can help yourself don't ask.

Today a fatal accident/death is converted to "Beggar's Banquet".

Just drain the last coin of other's pockets.

It's for me and my friends embarrassing to read.

Thank you for your post👍

Same story over and over and same reactions.

Speak as I find, and I find almost everyone that has an accident or id there is a death, you know a GoFundMe is going to follow.

Crowdfunding is completely different, many of those are business ideas and ventures and its usually laid out clearly if you are giving for givings sake, if there will be a return etc.

Is it one of your days to look around the forum and nitpick as much as possible?

Not a chance, it's begging, I didn't do it and nor do my sons in 2026.

If the day has a "Y" in it, it's one of those days.

12 hours ago, Liverpool Lou said:

from the many stories I have read over the years here in Thailand, having an accident on a motorcycle and not wearing a helmet many times has resulted in head injury and brain damage. Insurance companies usually deny a claim for such action so it isn't strange at all.

NB there has been no mention in the Thai or UK media which island or hospital is involved and actually who specifically informed the family that the medical care received was "inadequate".

If they are considering any legal action in Thailand, they have a long expensive road ahead on that issue.
