Brit, 32, dies in Thailand days before wedding after crash

If that's the case (only the Sun scooped) then the source is likely to be the bride-to-be family and/or the groom's family in the UK. Yes, that would seem consistent with them already beginning to put together a legal case.

Not necessarily a legal case, but spinning the story for the JustGiving narrative.

More likely to get donations claiming third-rate hospitals and unprofessional health care workers at fault. Makes for a much more intriguing victimhood story.

Less likely to give when possibly learning drunk/high or no insurance or no helmet.

Very tragic once again. When will the UK government ban it's own to travel without proper travel health or accident insurance ? Because at this rate of all the gofundme's for the brits, at one point

Sure you will if they ride a high quality bike.

I said rarely, and yes, the big bike guys who take riding seriously are usually the exception.

Understand your point, however, have you seen the state of crash helmets in Thailand that are available on sale?

You will very rarely see a Thai go out and buy a high quality crash helmet when cheaper options are available and the same applies to the helmets supplied by shops renting bikes, it's wrong, we all know it is, but it is, what it is.

The cheapest helmet on the market, even though it scrapes through as a crash helmet for the law, will always be the favoured option.

how much is a safe brain/head worth?

All for the sake of not wearing a helmet🤷‍♂️

British man Kyle Campbell, 32, has died in Thailand days before he was due to marry his fiancee, Kannika Masasai, his family said.

The plumber from Westhoughton, Bolton, died in his sleep in the early hours of July 30 after being involved in a motorbike crash, on a holiday island, that left him with a head injury. He had travelled to Thailand to marry Kannika, his partner of two-and-a-half years. The family said he had travelled often to meet Kannika during that time.

Family raise concerns over treatment

Mr Campbell was taken to hospital after the crash, where relatives said he received treatment before being discharged only hours after the collision.

His family say doctors gave him the all-clear but advised that he return the following day so he could travel to the mainland for further treatment. The family were informed of his death in the early hours of July 30.

Relatives have described the standard of medical care he received as "inadequate". In a statement on a JustGiving fundraising page, Mr Campbell's cousin, Dianne Fisher, said the family had since been told his care was inadequate and that he later died as a result of his injuries. The family gave no further details of where the crash occurred or the hospital involved.

"His death has devastated everyone who knew and loved him," she wrote.

Kannika, who has been left grieving alongside Mr Campbell's 12-year-old son, paid tribute to her fiance.

"Death takes away the body but love remains, rest in peace my love, and you will always be in my heart," she said.

"I will keep you in my best memories forever my love."

Repatriation costs and travel concerns

The family has launched a JustGiving appeal with a GBP10,000 target, which was quickly reached, to help meet the cost of returning Mr Campbell's body to the UK, his funeral and other unexpected expenses.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Thailand."

"Just give me" fund? Someone should have just given this guy some very sound advise to stay off of a motorbike in Thailand before he came. Very sad indeed and I really do not understand why many foreigners risk their lives to get on these death traps.

Right he could be on Phi Phi. But for me the interest is in why are they so hush-hush about the island, the hospital, or any details of the accident.

Might be the family is greiving and focused on repatriating their deceased son/brother ?

They have not hesitated to say the medical attention was "inadequate".

You should send them a sternly worded email.

But yes, Phi Phi Governemnt hospital has very limited resources so one could come to the conclusion the medical attention was inadequate in this instance.

To me 'inadequate' implies negligence. And both sides are probably already getting legal advice.

"Just give me" fund

Could someone explain to me how these online fundraising platforms actually work? It seems so simple when reading the testimonials here, especially those from Britons, that I would conclude that it has become unnecessary to take out travel insurance.

Reality is there is not enough cost to the UK government to justify forcing insurance, more so it is on the hosting countries, and the success of goFundMe efforts seems to make that redundant. In this case it is more about the quality of the treatment that perhaps failed to check for more serious injury.,,

Very true. But is that a reason to allow people comming in to Thailand, like the Brits, with some having absolutely no kind of health, accident or rapatriation insurance ? It makes things difficult for all falangs just due to a few who don't care and expect the gofundme platforms to finance, if issues occur. Sorry.

Checking all foreign arrivals for sufficient insurance might add to the 2 hour waits we already have at Swampy!

The Bt.300 cost being added to the TDAC will cover tourists for medical emergencies.

Unfortunately there is no single national real-time public database that Immigration can query for every health or travel policy the way motor compulsory insurance works.

It's for the respective countries to do the check when they check in at the airline counter back in the UK or other nations who do not have compulsory health-accident insurance by law. Just like they check your visa when you do the check in in your homeland point of departure.

That is unlikely to come about. It would be a good solution for all tourists to have some accident insurance for sure.

That would only happen if there was a likelihood of passengers getting returned for having no insurance, and the airline would get fined. So we still have checks on arrival adding to delays. How about the renters including some accident insurance for the rentee, as opposed to just the compulsory (CTPL) cover they have. It would add to the cost which is really very cheap at current levels.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with a small government hospital with very limited resources.

So regardless on which "holiday island" this all occurred, the big question now is:

Who is the person or entity that informed the family and subsequently the WORLD: The medical care provided to the deceased had been 'inadequate'.

Likely the family could answer that for you, send them an email.

Maybe their lawyers have told them to keep that under wraps.

That's OK. The verbiage to me indicates they are looking at a complaint for criminal negligence and that's sufficient for me.

Thailand Penal Code:

Section 291 Whoever, doing the act by negligence and that act causing the other person to death, shall be imprisoned not out of ten years or fined not out of twenty thousand Baht.
