It was heartwarming to see Kennedy and Johnson escalate the war in Vietnam, resulting in the loss of 58,000 US service members. I always anticipated watching the evening news to hear about the daily body counts. It was a truly heartwarming experience.

At least, back in the say, they featured the dead and missing, in a count which was front and center.

They would never do that these days.

Everything the gov does is hidden.

I do recall those body counts, and who could forget.

They were broadcase prominently, DAILY.....every single day.

Gamma, I think you’ve accidentally answered your own question. You’ve asked what is better in 2026 than 1960, while posting the question on a computer, over the internet, to people you’ve never met,

From the USA. That's a tough one. I'm going to refer to 1960 - 1965, since that's where my early memories begin. Today you can't support a working class family with house and car with a single salary

It depends on what colour you are. You old white men always have this unrealistic fondness for 1960's nostalgia, conveniently forgetting that a large swathe of your population suffered systemic inequ

The movies, films, TV-videos, you have listed here are all GARBAGE.

Why am I not surprised.

Anyway, I detest Fantasy garbage more than anything.

Choice of film entertainment is HEAVILY INFLUENCED by CULTURE.

Hence, most people from the USA cannot relate to Bollywood fare.

But, I consider your choices of film garbage, and with good reason, from a cultural perspective.

I did not see any Woody Allen flicks on your list, by the way.

WHY NOT?

That you think those movies are garbage shows you aren't knowledgeable on what makes a good movie. Whiplash, Interstellar, The Pianist and Breaking Bad are among the best ever made.

Most people can't relate to Bollywood fare? Where do you think the best moves have been made worldwide?

Woody Allen has made some good films, like Hannah and her Sisters, Manhattan, Sleepers, Take the Money and Run, Annie Hall, and Bullets Over Broadway.

Driving down a highway doesn't give you any idea what Texas is. Texas is a fantastic state with clean beaches, beautiful scenery, all types of geographical wonders, all the world's best food, great music and concerts, great hunting and fishing, and friendly people.

You can keep all that you mention.

I am interested ONLY in what Musk is doing in Texas.

What do you think about the Terafab facility now in the offing.

And, how will this change life in Texas, and life around the world?

Life in Texas was better in 1960, compared to today, in every way.

Now, it's far worse.

Even though life is worse now in Texas, still, curiosity is a powerful motivator.

I am curious to see just how fast Musk can build his long-term project, in Texas, TERAFAB.

I guess you prefer Texas and India culture.

Name ten Bollywood films that you believe to be outstanding.

The only thing wrong with Texas is all the development going on the last 2 decades.

I like American and Asian cultures. What I like about India are the stories of Leopards and Tigers. I don't like Bollywood movies, although I do like a few about India. Gandhi, Lion, Slumdog Millionaire, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and Life of Pi.

There IS NO monolithic American culture today.

In 1960, we had a more identifiable "American culture" which the majority of Americans identified with.

Theses days, we do not.

Name your Top 10 Bollywood movies.

I think everyone reading here will enjoy a good belly-laugh.

This will change your life.....so.....

ENJOY....!!!!!!

Is it true that even debating style was better in the 1960s?

Seems so...

That student from Italy really got Reagan complertely WOUND UP....

Reagan could hardly keep from blasting out of his chair.

Those were better days, even with the war in Vietnam raging.

At the very least, these two never gorged on Big Macs on Air-force One, nor stoop so low as some....

You have Reagan debating a Kennedy about Vietnam, and you are trying to <deleted> on Regean. Yet, it was JFK who backed a coup against South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem in 1963. It was LBJ who escalated the war in 1965. Let's not forget the role of the French in all this.

Reagan, in this debate, seems far more angry and annoyed at the guy from ITALY.

My comment is about the changing debate style, as seen on TV, in the 1960s....VS......Today.

This is my point.

Also, I cast no aspersions on either Reagan or Kennedy, despite the fact you erroneously think I may have.

You mean, you like the stories about HUNTING Leaopards and Tigers......I think.

Something I have absolutely no interest in.

But....I do have just one word for you........PLASTICS......PLASTICS.......

How has the release of microplastics into the environment increased from 1960 to 2026?

Let's ask the Robot.....

image.png

Practically non-existent in 1960.

And, 450 million TONS........PER YEAR....and CLIMBING.....

image.png

Human Lungs is a great place to find micro-plastics, it seems.

Oh....Great....!!!!!

And, the world population continues to climb to 10 BILLION, and each human will need more....

PLASTICS....

So, any benefits which we have accrued from technology from 1960 to 2026 will be MORE THAN OFFSET by the harm and damages of just the same technology.

If we had capped EVERYTHING back in 1960....

Then we all would have been a happier lot.

So many things.

Some better.

Some worse.

Porn comes to mind.

Clippings of underwear models from Sears catalogs just doesn't cut it.

I worked for Aramco for several years. My office was on the second floor and I had to contend with wall-to-wall cock-waving and BS from the self-entitled, all-male graduate Saudi's that fell under my tutelage. They lived for their weekend over the causeway in Bahrain, whoring and drinking while doing everything possible to avoid an honest day's work back in the office and field.

On my final year, I was promoted to a position on the third floor, among senior local management. We had female personal assistants and secretaries, and it was a blissful oasis of professional calm and sensibility away from the testosterone-fuelled nonsense below. It made me appreciate women's place in the workforce even more.

Have you seen the way that Saudi men drive?

I worked in O&G in Libya at the remote Wafa Field operated by ENI. I worked in the Safety Office with another expat and 4-5 locals. They all had been sent to UK to obtain Masters degrees, Their fathers were fairly high up in Gadaffi,s gov't. My office was across the hall from theirs and I got used to hearing gaming sounds constantly from their side. If they happened to get any real work across their desk it was immediately passed to us.Most of them couldn't form a paragraph nor complete a report without help.Ultra lazy and incompetent IMHO.
