What's the problem with wood ?

Featured Replies

Hello

I buy model ships in wood to Amazon and sent to Thailand by Fedex or UPS

both tell me that my innocent ships are in customs and that I have to go to ministry of agriculture myself with my passport, to receive a paper and I have some papers to fill for UPS, on line

you know why ? just because in the package there is wood ( boats to build are in wood )

so, my question is : what is dangerous in wood and what Thailand is afraid of ? contagion ? are there these restrictions in other countries ? thank you for your responses

ps; when it's sent by post, for instance by USPS or Ukraine post or sent by Amazon , no taxes and harassment , only UPS and Fedex ask all these things

On the Customs and Border Patrol programs, people are frequently forbidden from transporting wood. Perhaps Thailand wants to confirm what kind of wood you have, and how it has been treated. From google:

Crossing international borders with wood is heavily restricted to prevent the spread of invasive pests and tree diseases. Firewood and untreated raw logs are strictly banned by most countries. Finished items like varnished furniture or processed materials like plywood are usually allowed if declared. Rare or endangered tree species are protected globally and require special export and import permits.

Oh my. I regularly have wood. Usually in the morning. Hope it doesn't happen while going through customs.
