I have used MYTELLO for a few years now for calls to the UK. No real issues to speak of.

I use a different provider which gives me a phone number in my home country that I use to make calls over wifi that looks like a domestic phone call to the recipient. Top secret, it's not a UK company.

Anyway I am interested in using an eSIM for international calling.

Got credit on bcengi, but haven't tried it yet.

Got a physical sim for a $3 a month wifi based network that works on T-Mobile.

I plan on hooking up bcengi for the roaming data.

Won't be able to make phone calls when away from wifi, but can use roaming data which means Google search, Google maps, streaming, Whatsapp, etc

Can ye not just tell us the name??? I would not use my mobile for overseas calling but my Mac. Do all these systems work on computers?

Some good options here for calling home, but does anyone know how to receive calls to your UK number (while in Thailand) cheaply?

I had to take a prearranged call on my UK number a few weeks back, and had to preload £5 credit into my account beforehand.

A little less than 5 minutes into the call it cut off as the credit was all used up.

Don't like monthly subscriptions for anything. Maybe I only make one call. Costs me $10.

How I miss Skype! This is Microsoft's usual strategy. Buy something GREAT, cut tech and customer support and run it into the ground.

It was purchased by Microsoft then closed to stop it competing with a Microsoft product (Microsoft Teams).

It was never free. Free just if you call another Skype user. Not free if you wanted to call a landline or mobile number of someone not using Skype as well.

I phoned my UK bank yesterday on MyTello and they asked where I was calling from. Later in the call they requested my Thai number for their records.

Looking at the settings for the app it says this:- "We are always sending your caller id when you activate this feature. But we can't guarantee that the local provider abroad is showing it. We do our best to select partners that transfer your caller id."

So maybe your number will show up (if you activate the function), maybe it won't.

P.S. I'm only on top-up.

That's exactly why i didn't go with them, 50/50 shows the right number isn't good enough

I went with Sonetel, when it works it's great, but hit or miss with some features. For 10 USD/mo. on yearly plan about the same as Skype. US local number with caller ID both ways, free or cheap calls,OTP,SMS, voicemail and a bunch of stuff I'm not interested in. The main problem I have is incoming calls should go 1st to my computer, then my Thai number and finally to voicemail. What usually happens is it goes to the Thai phone and incurs a 13 cent/minute charge, which is not the end of the world but still sucks. Have had minor problems with outgoing calls but always get the OTP and SMS. My main concerns were a local number and receiving OTP and that works OK. It seems they are having problems with a quick expansion. They respond quickly to emails and have solved some problems. Still have a few months left before I renew but not sure if I will.

Brilliant app 12 baht for about 20 mins talking to my uk bank.

Minimum credit 250 baht if I can remember.

Like others, since the demise of Skype I have used Mytello with no problems; good for phoning call centers, etc.

But most times I use WhatsApp.

I have used Mytello for 5 or more years and I recommend it and now my pals in Thailand use it . It is a very cheap and a good service . I not only use it in Thailand but also the UK where I have a " Pay as you go " contract with Three . Three charge 35 pence a minute for calls but Mytello a fraction of this .
