Thailand or Vietnam: Retirement choices

But other examples is Thailand cannot keep the 800/65 forever.

Why not? It's been 20 years so far and their last overhaul to the retirement extension they didn't do it.

It's simple. The 800k / 65k is losing it's purchasing power, just like money is in many other countries.

Basically, that 800k / 65k doesn't buy you what it used to be able to buy you, thus, these amount will eventually get to the point where they don't mean much when it comes to a foreigner being self sufficient with these amounts of money, so at some point, the Thai government will raise them.

I never suggested it would be next week, but it's inevitable.

What makes you think they can not / will not announce a new retirement visa class in the future? This is true, but at least Vietnam doesn't try to pass itself off as a democracy when it's not, like

Of course I can afford to buy a car. I've even kept my car back in Australia.

What's so difficult to understand about not buying assets in a country that you have no right to reside in?

I don't buy assets that I couldn't afford to walk away from.

Applies to anywhere in the world.

Learned that in my Brit divorce.

Some people can't afford to leave a penny behind

It's not simple. There is no indication that the 800K is based upon purchase power since you really can't use it for purchases.

They shouldn't be spending the money, if they can't afford to walk away from it.

The problem with Vietnam are the people. They're not like Thais, friendly, moral, kind and sweet. Vietnamese people are highly intelligent, calculating, aggressive and unfriendly on the whole. That's why it's a short holiday destination best case scenario and not a long term living option.

The chaotic motorcycle noise problem is far worse than Thailand. It doesn't seem an appealing place to live, Da Nang excepted.

Complete fantasy post,

Thais are as greedy and manipulative and noisy as any other Asians.

You make an interesting point about intelligence , Vietnamese definitely tend to have higher IQ's than their more aboriginal subcontinent Thai brethren and Viet Nam lady very sexually demanding with bigger natural milks and smaller cuter frames.

u like Lady Viet Nam ?

Vietnamese have higher IQs due to a much higher incidence of Chinese admixture, the Chinese of course being the real high IQ people.

Of course there will be attractive Vietnamese women.

The 800k / 65k is there to show you can support yourself in Thailand. In effect, it shows proof of income.

The cost of living, including medical, for both small procedures and something catastrophic, have increase significantly since the 800k / 65k was introduced.

As I said, the 800k / 65k no longer buys what it used to be able to buy, thus, an increase is inevitable.

I've certainly never found Thais to be greedy. That's quite evident when you buy peppers for 20 baht. Thais are among the least greedy people on the planet.

Of course Vietnamese also are not very greedy. By far the most greedy people are Brits, who like to eat Roast beef and stole the whole planet's resources for centuries. The Dutch come a close second.

The Dutch were so greedy they invented the Dutch East India company and thus the corporate method of pooling resources. This was also adopted by the Brits who set up the East India company. Imagine being so greedy you invest in exploring for years just to get money in return. Still, I think the Brits pip the dutch, the Brits set up Iraq just to extract oil resources from the region for instance. Imagine creating a whole country out of greed for resources.

I currently hold several assets in my home country, where I have the right to reside, and where there is a decent rule of law. I will not buy assets in a country where these do not exist.

Well when(?) they change it, maybe we'll hear it here first.

Between 2006 and 2019, the overall cost of living in Thailand—measured by cumulative Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation—increased by approximately 29% to 30%. --

https://ycharts.com/indicators/thailand_inflation

so during those two dates they didn't bother to change it then

Some people haven't even got a penny to leave behind. They live month to month on a meager aged pension from their home country.

But it's likely the people that use an agent because they can't afford the B800K in the bank or the B65K a month transfers can continue using agents, so no need to worry.

Yes, the Japs are definitely up there and the Ashkenazis don't do badly.

I'd say the Japanese is a very curious case. They are both liked and respected and disliked at the same time. Their very high IQ makes them prone to being very strange, I mean who likes Octopus porn? They're very strange people.

I found people who live in Japan long term dislike the Japanese very much.

Honda really is an excellent car of course, especially the Accord.

Totally not my experience. I find the Vietnamese a lot more friendly.

Look at all the violent gun crime in Thailand. Thai guys "losing face" so killing the wife and in-laws etc.

That's not generousity, if they upped the price, they wouldn't sell any (law of supply and demand).

Up in the hills above CM (Mon Jairm/Mon Long) there are many poly tents growing 1,000s of peppers.

Often the selling price is so low, they just leave them to rot, as not worth the labour cost of picking.

There's a reason why the saying, "Money Number One" came about here. 🙂

You're right though, Thais are more violent. This is true of course.

It's with everything though, isn't it, not just food. Everything is extremely cheap in Thailand. Cheaper than in Philippines, which is poorer on paper. Thai people are just not greedy. You yourself told how your British wife was far more greedy than your current Thai partner.

More to do with legal backing provided by the state, than any choices of the women.

All women are greedy, given the opportunity to take.

My Thai wife has the opportunity to take 300kbht (deposit on her house).

My money is all back in the UK where she has no recourse in law to take.

(different laws for Australian citizens)

People in Hanoi are way more friendly than HCMC and the south. I would say they're more friendly than Thai people.

It's a fair question.

See, everything comes with two sides. Take oxytocin. It makes you more loved up. With people you're already inclined to like. However, with people you're already inclined to dislike, it has the exact opposite effect, it makes you dislike them more.

It's actually very common that people who are very generous in big matters are also very stingy in small things. It's very strange. But that's the way it is.

Of course Thais can be friendly, prone to Buddhist morality, kind, well educated, sweet, but also prone to bouts of violence. The Indonesians are the same. All smiles, until they have had enough and run Amok.

To some extent that is true of course, we are all greedy, men too. It is a universal human trait, greed. Perhaps Thai people are more constrained from letting the greed hang out. I have certainly not seen instances of Thailand creating a country out of thin air to extract oil, like Britain did with Iraq, or setting up an exploration company to extract resources from other countries over years like the Dutch did with the East India company.

Historically speaking it does seem Thais are far less greedy. Even wars of colonial exploitation are an exception in Thai history. I mention history as my own experience that Thais are less greedy is subjective.

Speak for yourself, I've never been greedy, and I've never wanted more than I have. Don't care about what other people have either, envy is as bad as greed!

Don't care about oil, I don't use it (apart for cooking oil).
