That would be very authentic.

Comparing several trips there two years ago with when I first visited back around 2010, it's getting there.

Yes, and on my first stay on Patong Beach in 1978, we had a choice of two beach bungalow "resorts", neither of which were connected to the island grid, and nighttime local power ended around 2 am when the portable generator ran out of fuel.

The next (and last) visit was about eight years later and it was well on the way to being the ghetto that it now is.

My first visit to Nha Trang in 2008 was memorable with very little traffic and vendors selling fresh seafood on the beach front. Fast-forward ten years, and the beach front is already high-rise hotels, some condos and a 4-lane "highway" separating them from the beach.... reminded me of Pattaya.

Oh yes, and a colossally ugly cable-car system on pylons to an overpriced tourist trap island.
