A number one golden rule in any bar here is to pay as you are served. Because if not, there is always the temptation to inflate the final check once they consider that the customer is a bit drunk and loosens up. But then it's upto the patron. Many do not mind being cheated as it's a small amount with the exchange rates etc...up to you.

On beach road Pattaya, between soi 7 and 8, there was a gogo bar, I think it was wide world agogo. At opening around 4.30pm the girls (naked) would run around the stage, bells ringing, beer glasses clanging on the tables, lots of noise. One girl would take her glass filled with booze, the front door would open momentarily, the girl would bend over with her naked bottom pointing out the door and throw her booze on walking pedestrians.

I couldn't help myself, I had to go inside for a beer.

They are. From the Barossa and Hunter Valley regions, respectively. Vasse Felix classic dry whites from Margaret River stand up well too.

IMO the best red wine ever made was Booth's Premium Shiraz, its maker was Cliffy Booth. Vintaged in the late eighties and early nineties, it came from a small winery on the south flank of the Warby Ranges, near Wangaratta. Not expensive, $15 a bottle.

It was never sold out of commercial outlets, only the cellar door. People would drive up from Melbourne to buy it by the carton. It was usually sold out about six weeks after the vintage was released.

It had a supernacular, almost hypnotic quality. No-one ever left an opened bottle with any wine in it.

Cliffy Booth died in 1989. The last Premium Shiraz he supervised came out in 1992. While subsequent reds from the family winery were good, they were never the same stellar quality. His secret died with him.

Best red I ever had was a 1953 Chateau Latour, followed by a 1970 Chateau Lafite and a 1976 Chateau Margaux. So many I can't remember all of them but those stand out. The Latour I brought to a Chinese restaurant with a friend. Italian Barolo and Amarones, California Cabernets, French Burgundys, Chateauneuf Du Pape, Pinot Noirs, and an Opus One blend are some I recall. I have 8 photo albums full of labels and a huge box of corks.
