Very sad to see people still fall for these scams. Loneliness in old age is a terrible thing. I guess the only mistake on his return he should have stopped of in France and got a dinghy back as free housing and pocket money is provided on that route. I wish him well.

He is 68, not 88.Unless he is suffering from some form of dementia, he should still have his wits about him.

Some thing wrong here. The standard state pension is £241.30 per week. I get more that £500 every two weeks. So unless for some reason he is not on a full pension because of lack of contributions then some thing isn't right.

Also the state pension is not a monthly amount, it is weekly and paid as 13 equal amounts through out the year. I elected to get it paid every two weeks, easier to budget for things.

I find it unbelievable that I have read comments that almost seem to praise these disgusting scumbags, these <deleted> scammers. During my years as a police officer in my country, until my very recent retirement, I personally took great satisfaction in arresting people like them, because they are the absolute scum of society.

I wish this good man all the very best, and I sincerely hope he can spend the rest of his days as happily as possible.

Some people don't age well. Back in 2010/09 was the time that the Government first announce the increase in pension age. I was 59 at the time and the increase in age was after I would have reached 65. Any way the guy I was was working with who looked at lease 10 years older than me started complaining that he was not going to be able to retire at 65 now. Mind you you should have see how many cigarettes he smoked in a day.
