US envoy raises antisemitism concerns in Thailand

No, Ambassador Kaploun did not venture onto foreign soil. He stayed in his office in Washington and issued a short message to express his concern over "rising antisemitic rhetoric in Thailand."

That's his job as head of the U.S. Dept. of State's Office of the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism.

Of course it is, there would be no antisemitism rules without US power to enforce it, it works in the US, GB, Europe because of Holocaust denial, which I totally agree with, the trouble is the Israel question where criticism of their actions has been slipped into the regulation to deny anyone making a fuss about any Israeli actions.

This was argued by all and sundae, before it was put on the statute in the early 2000's, I was on a Union committee that was against the text at the time, there were loads of meeting with MP's, Parliamentary Committees from all points of the compass, this is where I became very aware of the Israeli lobby, and the plight of Palestinians.

Sorry to say the IHRA is what we ended up with after going through all the meetings and ended up going into law, well not so much law as guidance, about 5 years later the US followed suit, and we have the sh!t show that we have today.

There are a lot of Jews that are against it as it is really only for the Zionists with no room for any alternatives, looking back in hindsight anti-Zionists got caught on the back-foot and the Israeli Lobby won the day,

That's it, long story short, which no doubt, the Pro-Zionists on here will want to argue about, as is their way.

Happy days, when I thought people where honest and would do the right things which would benefit all sides, how naive I was, met some lovely Palestinians at the time, and that convinced me which side to pick in this conflict.

Zionists are not to be trusted, in my opinion, they are the problem of Jews/Israel and the rest of the Middle East, but they are also very good at what they do, pulling the wool over peoples eyes, along with the Christian Fundamentalists. No one is more scary than a seemingly reasonable person that isn't, believe me.

That's mental illness.

Oppress or be oppressed.

It's ok to oppress the Palestinians or they will oppress us.

And then deny that you are even oppressing them.

The place needs MEDIATORS and PEACE DEALS to break up the fight.

We don't need a bunch of cheerleaders taking sides.

It has been tried so many times and never holds out. Even the more current events came about due to a Hamas inspired attack on Israelis, deliberately to set things off again. And it sure has done.

So there's no chance in hell for a peace deal ever?

We can't continue letting people kill each other though. That's not a solution either.

Empty out the whole area. NO ONE gets the land.

Kick out the Palestinians and Jewish people, both.

Relocate them all.

Use the land for AI data centers.

I don't know what happened in CE 300.

I wasn't there and we can't fully trust the history books.

Could you share your thoughts on how Jesus may have let you down? I'm genuinely interested in understanding what led to those feelings.

The Allies won WW2, GB, USA, Russia, and China, when it was all over the big 4 formed the United Nations, Fifty nations formally signed the UN Charter on June 26, 1945, bringing the United Nations into official existence. France joined the Big Four to become the Permanent Members of the United Nations Security Council, giving these five victors veto power.

The UN Charter originally intended for member nations to provide armed forces through special agreements. However, tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union stopped these negotiations in 1947, preventing the plan from ever happening.

Russia (including the former Soviet Union) has used the UN Security Council veto the most overall, while the United States has been the most frequent user since the end of the Cold War.

The veto power allows any of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council to unilaterally block any substantive resolution.

Several proposals advocate for a "responsibility not to veto," which would ban the use of the veto in cases of genocide, war crimes, or crimes against humanity.

Until the P5 members sort this out there will never be any lasting resolutions to any of the many problems around the World.

Basically we are still fighting the end game of WW2, Capitalism v Communism, 80 years of indecision that has still killed Millions.

Whether in CE 300 or 2026 or any time between, Jews haven't behaved worse than anyone else.

The Thais don't care what happened in CE 300.

Only freaks like you have studied the entire history of the Jewish people.

If you read the latest thread about Anutin's orders, it seems like the Chabads barring Thais was one of the straws that broke the camel's back. It is perceived by both locals and authorities either as a power threat of culturally inappropriate.

You can keep calling it anti-semitism if it makes you feel better.

The Thais are running their country as they see fit. If they don't like it and/or feel threatened by it, then that's what it is.

And we can all be tossed out at any time, so no point on dwelling over the Jewish issue.

I need to worry about myself.

You are mistaken- Chabad Houses don't bar Thais from entering on the basis of nationality. About 200 Thais are Jewish from birth and they are most certainly welcome. Many Thais also work in Chabads. The Thai spouses or partners of Jews are also welcome.

Non-Jews of any nationality who don't have a reason to be in the Chabad may be denied entry. That is for both practical purposes (limited space) and security in light of past terrorist attacks or disruption by demonstrators.

Basically, a Chabad House has nothing to offer anyone who isn't Jewish except perhaps a kosher restaurant. Usually the restaurants have a separate entrance and are open to the general public. In some cases there may be an issue with ritual purity, but that is rare. Ritual purity is more a concern during Shabbat meals than with restaurant guests.

This question has been asked before but no one has answered: Why would anyone who isn't Jewish want to visit a Chabad House?

It's been the same reasons for over 2,000 years: fear, misunderstanding and the need for scapegoats. There has never been a valid reason for antisemitism.

All of use need to worry about ourselves, but I still have time to worry about the emergence of antisemitism in Thailand. It's a development that deserves worry.

Well anyway, there is the alleged comment to a Thai official that the Chabad was "Israeli territory". That alone may have triggered their wrath. And the cemetary issue is also a big issue. They are probably the first group ever to try to erect their own cemetary. It's probably perceived as a kind of "segregation".

To me, you are making this way too much about anti-semitism.

What's going on affects all of us. The Thais can lose their patience with any of us if we step on someone's toes and have us thrown out.

I recall what appeared to be a Chinese cemetery on Soi Siam CC Rd in Pattaya. Perhaps Thais of Chinese heritage. Isn't there also a foreign graveyard at the Church on Sukhumvit...?

The details of that comment are still unclear, Who was the guy who said it? If the photos in the Thai media are accurate, he wasn't part of the Chabad staff. Why does anyone care about what a random individual who may not even be Jewish, much less Israeli, had to say?"

Thailand has numerous cemeteries for foreigners. The Bangkok Protestant Cemetery has 1,800 interments and is now nearly full. The area for Jewish burials race out of space in 2021.

Chon Buri province has several cemeteries for foreigners, including a Jewish cemetery. The Chiang Mai Foreign Cemetery, with its famous statue of Queen Victoria, dates back to 1898. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Queen_Victoria,_Chiang_Mai

Cemeteries for non-Buddhists in Thailand are nothing new.

Well, then who knows what else is going on?
Maybe they pi**ed off authorities somehow that we will never know about what took place behind closed doors. Maybe they tried to do sth without getting proper approvals.

Or maybe it is a sign of increasing hostility towards all of us.

I really don't know.

Maybe, you're right, it was all a joke, said by some random foreigner in a Chabad run by a Jewish/Israel charity that was being inspected by a delegation of Thai Official for permits and complying with Thai regulations, how silly, I can't see what all the fuss is about, can you?
