Residents of Phang Nga, Phuket warned of heavy rains

The Meteorological Department Monday warned residents of Phang Nga and Phuket to brace themselves against heavy rains due to the influence of the southwestern monsoon.

In its morning forecast issue at 4 am, the department said the monsoon over the Andaman and Gulf of Thailand plus influence of a low pressure ridge over the Northeast would unleash rains in many parts of the country but the two southern provinces would face the biggest hits.

Nearly all regions, except the Central, would be hit by rains at the ratio of at least 60 per cent of each region's areas, the department said.

Rains would fall in about 40 per cent of areas in the Central and about 70 per cent of areas in southern provinces on the western coast.

The department said about 60 per cent of areas in Bangkok would also be hit by rains.
