Japanese Bbq

Featured Replies

Anyone know a good Japanese BBQ restaurant in Sukhumvit?

Exactly what are you looking for?

In Japan BBQ is usually called yakiniku - if that's what you're looking for, I think you want to find Korean BBQ instead because that's exactly what it is.

yakiniku. some believe it is based on Korean style BBQ - but not the same with the cuts of meat used and variety and a little more refined. Of course it was a Japanese guy that told me that...I would imagine Koreans beg to differ.

I have tried a few Korean BBQ places in Sukhumvit surrounding area all seem to be smokey - clothes sticking places when u leave.

It's Korean BBQ. In Tokyo most yakiniku places are run by Koreans for a reason :o

I may agree with you on occasionally slightly different cuts of meat. But "refined" translates to "smaller". And the smell will stick to you with yakiniku unless they're preparing everything for you in the kitchen.

Your best bet would be to look in the Japanese area near Villa (Sukhumvit 33/1). There may be some in the other Japanese areas such as Soi 53, the road connecting Soi 49 (where Samitivej Hospital is) with Thonglor, and its subsois.

Thanks for the info. Have found one on Thonglor that will try at the weekend. Some of the more modern ones Ive been to on my travels have excellent smoke extraction fans built around the grill seems to cure the smokey clothes quite well.

Cheers.

Ah, forgot about that place. Is it Grand Yakiniku or something like that?

Across from that is Seoul Korean BBQ... and nearby is Dawon Korean BBQ which I highly recommend. All of those are around a tiny Japanese enclave which is almost unnoticeable from the main road - Grand Tower Inn serves mostly Japanese people.

But don't get your hopes up - I have never, ever, left a Korean BBQ without smelling appetizing to the people I walk past :o Those extraction fans only help keep the smoke out of your face for the most part... even the most powerful ones I've seen (you can hear the air being sucked up at high capacity) don't do much for the smell...

Cheers Ill give Dawon a go also....fat weekend coming on :o

There's a Japanese 'smokeless' bbq on suk soi 31. If you come up from Sukhumvit, turn left at the crossroads, follow the road round the bend and it's on your right. I haven't been in a while, but when I did, it used to get EXTREMELY busy, people hogging tables and waiting for their friends for half an hour before they start ordering etc. Food was pretty good.

Did you try that yakiniku place yet?

Took the family to Dawon yesterday. Food good as usual but prices for some things have gone up - and Dawon is not a particularly cheap place to begin with. Service also good as usual, one of the waitresses will do all the cooking for you at the table if you like.

The Seoul across the street has apparently been renovated as well, and the kids like that place too and I suspect it's a bit cheaper than Dawon.
