Thai Visa And Onward Travel

Featured Replies

Hello-

Need some help! I am booking my first leg of my travel....NZ, Australia and then on to Bangkok....I do not have an onward ticket out of SE Asia. I plan on hitting Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos from Bangkok...I would say about 2 and half months. Any advice about an onward ticket out of Bangkok...should I get my Visa for Bangkok once I arrive at the airport? I am a citizen of the US...really could use any advice....want to book my tickets today!

Thanks!

Moved to the Thai Visas and Residency sub-forum.

You will need to get a Thai visa because you do not have a confirmed outbound airticket within 30 days of arrival. Without a visa or a ticket out the airline will not carry you in. The Embassy is in Wellington and the Consulate-General is in Auckland.

Sorry, but I am being told that I will need an onward ticket even if I have a tourist visa! Is that correct?

Appreciate your help!

That should not be the case at all.

It all depends on who is telling you that. If it is the Thai consulate where you are applying for your visa, then it is correct for that particular consulate.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Lynnie, an onward flight ticket to Vientiane, Laos or Phnom Penh,

Cambodia or HCMC, Vietnam would suffice. If you're planning on

visiting those places anyway. Your situation is a classic example

of how these fubar regulations hinder travel throughout the region.

As Bangkok is the hub for the system, it's all very unfortunate. :o

As Bangkok is the hub for the system, it's all very unfortunate. :D

So people who want to buy airline tickets in Thailand using Thailand as a hub, can no longer do so, as they buy in Bkk then return to Bkk on the same ticket ?

Can't they show proof funds instead of a ticket ? The Authorities must know that Bkk is a hub for international travel as the ticket prices are attractive.

Oh well...... :o
