Benefits Of Thai Permanent Resident Status

Featured Replies

Hi

I'd like to know if there're any special benefits to hold a Thai Permanent Residence status.

I looked thru www.thaivisa.com but found that the "benefits" are not really attractive.

Also, even with a PR status, I still have to have a Work Permit?

Correct.

As far as I can see it's only useful as a required stepping stone to obtaining Thai nationality, which then would require no WP, and can buy land etc.

I have had a resident permit for the past 14 years.

No real benefits, other than not having to consider visa runs, yearly visas etc. I still have to register at the local Police station every 5 years with a new updated photograph. Useful though for gaining admittance to national parks at the Thai price, although sometimes staff need much persuasion. I don't work so no need for work permit.

I only paid 25000bt, but now considerably more expensive

Correct.

but I beleive it is simply a formality....

afterall, no extension of stay is necessary for you now, and income requirements for WP are essential for those without PR - which is what makes it tricky.
