just wondering.. i have a GSM 1800 sim card and i'm heading to Laos (Luangprabang and vientiane) does any know if they'll still work?

Not sure about GSM 1800.

GSM 900 worked fine for me from a large part of Vientiane (it is still close enough to the Thai masts/aerials/antennae... (?) :o) although not everywhere.

I don't know about Luang Prabang but I doubt it, it is probably too far from there to Thailand.

yes they do work in vientiane but only near the border down by the river as previously stated ,no idea about luang though .

nah... it won't work in luang prabang. i took my phone travelling around laos (luang prabang, vang vieng and vientienne), and the only place i picked up a signal was by the river in vientienne...

My wifes Thai AIS mobile has global roaming and it worked in Vientiane last week. It worked fine at the morning market and all the way from the bridge. It also worked around Pakxe when we travelled around there although only near the towns. In Vientiane it switched to Tango which the Thai DTAC website says works with GSM 1800/900.

My Oz roaming mobile switched to Lao GSM (DTAC site says GSM 900 only) and had a signal all the time from the bridge and around vientiane.

Lao sim cards are cheap enough and usually come with free credit that you can use to ring Thailand with
