1-year Marriage Visa, Then Divorced...

Featured Replies

I received my 1-year extension on a Non-O on grounds of marriage. If I now decide to get divorced, will I have to notify immigration, and will they in that case cancel my extension? Anyone with experience?

This is the big risk with basing one's stay on marriage to someone...what happens if/when the relationship goes t$%s-up? My guess is that the visa extension would remain valid till the end of the year extension period and then one would have to either find another gal to marry, do a retirement visa (if over 50) or find some other basis to legitimize one's stay in Thailand.

I have heard that even after the divorce, guys still use their old marriage paperwork (marriage licenses) to continue to obtain their non-imm multi-entry O visas but one would not be able to do the 1 year extension stuff...back to visa runs every 3-4 months.

Best to tell immigration and then they will advise you.

If not the little lady may dob you in, then you are in trouble.

IME extension needs the little lady there to speak for you,

so if you are divorced, there will be no extension.
