It is simple. To work legally in Thailand, you must have a work permit. The non-B visa does not allow you to work; it allows you to travel to Thailand and, after your arrival, to apply for a work permit.

I think Non Imm. B Visa allow you to "visit" Thailand, and it's not intended for any work associated with revenue or money earning activity.

I heard that even for conference attendance, you need work permit.

I thought US immigration law is most ridiculous, but Thailand immigration law is no better than, even much worse than US immigration law.

At least, US embassy gives 5 year or 10 year visa. :-)

Yes I had heard that we should be getting WP's for Conference attending and giving presentations too.

I told some senior Dr's that yesterday at lunch and they were all very surprised - most people are unaware and nobody bothers.

If you have a valid work permit and the right paperwork you should be able to get the 1 year Non B from Penang without having to waste money flying to the UK. The list of requirements for a non Immigrant B visa are at the following link to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2492

Once you have a one year multiple non B, then you just need to visit the border to get another 90 day stamp, giving you almost 15 months of time in Thailand before you need to make a new visa run.

You will see from the above link that if you want to teach, there are different requirements for the non B visa.

The Non-Imm "B" is for business visits. It doesn't give the right to work. For example, if you're coming here to visit a supplier, or to visit a company that you are the shareholder, etc. Working is entirely different that a business visit.

Or you could go to the local Imm office and get a visa extension............valid for up to a year and then you wouldn,t have to do border runs every 90 days. :o

digitalchromakey, stevemiddie,

Please re-read the title of this thread :

"Non Im B With No Work Permit."

Thank's

You are correct. But the OP,s opening statement related to working here with no WP. This is something that cannot be condoned on TV for obvious reasons.

The OP knows that getting a WP is really the way to go. WE are pointing out the advantages to that as i believe the OP will get one.

Its that or get caught working and face a hefty fine, detention and/or deportation ( which is the most likely scenario )

No need for nitpicking especially as you have not contributed to this particular post. :o

Oooops,

I should have read myself the FULL title, not only the begin :

... "working on a non im B visa with out a Work permit?"

So you are right :

Working in Thailand => Work Permit. No other choice.

Sorry.
