Best Way To Move Modest Savings To Thailand Please?

Can anyone help please? We are making our permanent move to Thailand in December and wish to transfer some savings. My wife has a Thai bank account and I have an account here in the UK with HSBC.

Can anyone recommend the best way to move this money? We are not talking many many thousands just a modest amount, but much more than I would wish to carry around with me (£10.00 is more than you want to carry with you if its all you have though!)

I have heard that HSBC in BKK are a different company than the UK outfit.... :o the worlds bank? :D Should we change the money here or in Thailand? .... you see I'm not so bright am I :D

Can you pleasent people give me a shove in the right direction or point me to an existing topic.

Sorry if this has been covered many times before but if it wasnt for annoying people like me you would have nothing to talk about and would just spend your time enjoying yourselves!! :D

Anyway, thanks in advance & all the best!

Swift transfer, from your HSBC, to your Wifes Thai account would be the easiest.

Transfer using SWIFT and in sterling to get the Thai onshore rate. It'll cost about 20 quid UK end and 500 baht Thai end and you'll get the better rate. Whatever you do do not have HSBC make the exchange in the UK and then transfer as you'll get shafted on the rate. TRANSFER IN POUNDS.

You'll need your girlfriend's Bank's SWIFT code and account number etc to give to the UK bank. ie, SWIFT code for Bangkok Bank is BKKBTHBK. Should take couple working days at the most and you should get around 69-70 to the pound.

why not leave it off shore and bring it in if and when you need it ,interest rates in thailand are non existant ,where as off shore you will get something ,probably off set the tranfer costs, just an idea .......

Depends what sort of amount it is, and what he is intending to do with it. But, I agree keeping it off shore is a better option.
